Ladies - ob/gyn recommendations? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by KGirl on Tue Dec 16, 08 5:07 pm

Hello -

Anyone have a really good OB/GYN in the area? One who at least pretends to care, has an organized office, and has delivered many babies?

How do you report an abandoned bike? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by WorksInDUMBO on Thu Nov 06, 08 12:16 pm

I ride my bike every day to work down in DUMBO. On the street where I park (Main Street), there are many bike racks, which are necessary because there are tons of people who bike to work down here. Needless to say, even with all the new racks, there is still quite a shortage of places to lock up your bike.

Well anyway, there has been this one bike--which appears to be a fairly new Schwinn--which has been locked up to the same damned rack for at least 2-3 months now. It is taking up half of a single-bike rack, it has 2 locks on it, and it is huge and annoying.

I looked on the DOT web site and couldn't find anything, and from what I've read (perhaps incorrectly), DOT doesn't have a policy for abandoned bikes. Is there anything that can be done?

Cobbel Hill Super SCAM Service , SHELL station (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by newbie101 on Fri Oct 03, 08 5:14 pm

I brought my car in for an inspection. I received a call from one of the "mechanics" telling me that I need to replace all 4 struts, the coolant, Oil change, 1 tire and wiper blades. I told him I would pick up the car and get it done. (I used to be a mechanic and I can take care of most of it.) The "mechanic" then back peddled and said all I need to pass inspection was a new tire and wiper blades. Now I was sure this was a scam. I went to pick up the car. I agree the tire was worn. My wiper blades were replaced 3 months ago and I had no problem with them. You are at their mercy at this point because the inspection forms have already been submitted to the DMV. I paid them for the inspection (37.00) and asked how much the re-inspection would cost. He said 10 or 15 dollars. I went and got 2 new tires for the price they were going to charge for 1($200) and replaced the wiper blades. I then went back for the re-inspection. They refused to do the
re-inspection. They said they only do inspections in the morning. ( This was a lie!! A woman came in while I was there picking up my car at 2:30 and asked for an inspection on the spot. They said OK to her?) They said the owner would be back in an hour and I would have to talk to him. I didn't wait. I went to L & B on 4th Ave.

What was the name of the DUMBO area 10 years ago? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by YankeeFan on Sat Sep 13, 08 3:05 pm

Obviously the named DUMBO was created just a few years ago by Real Estate agents when the area first started becoming gentrified. But what was the area called before then? As far as I can remember, it was just an area of warehouses and docs that pretty much didn't have a name.

I need some help please (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by Romeo84 on Fri Sep 12, 08 4:53 pm

I was wondering if anyone can give me an address to the fire station in which fire fighter Joseph Agnello was stationed on the day of 9/11 2001? If I am not mistaken it was ladder 118. I have something that was made in rememberence of him for a 9/11 memorial motorcycle run, and I feel the family/friends/co-workers should have it. please email me at longhorns622002@hotmail.com.

Thanks

MY PRO-ACTIVE BABYSITTER AVAIABLE ASAP!!!!!!! (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by jencogliantry on Mon Sep 08, 08 10:13 am

We are relocating to Portland OR & want to put the word out regarding our wonderful baby sitter, Akada. She will be looking to join a new family, full- or part-time and we couldn't recommend her more highly.

She has looked after daughter for the last year & a half with such great, pro-active, up-beat and dependable care. I seriously don't know what we would have done without her! Our daughter has really thrived with her... and Akada has always been extremely accommodating with our nutty schedules.

She would love to find a new situation here in Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO or the surrounding neighborhoods, but she is also available to work in Manhattan.

If you might be looking for childcare please contact her directly.

Akada 347 526 2529

Or feel free to contact me for references: jen #917 687 0160
Thanks!!!!

Recommend FABULOUS dog walkers/pet sitters (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by evbk on Wed Aug 20, 08 8:45 pm

Hi All,

I don't often find someone to rave about, but if you have pets, then you absolutely have to give E&E Pets a try! They are wonderful! It's 2 women who left the corporate world behind to follow their passion and you can just tell they are animal lovers at heart. I have a pretty anti-social cat (until she warms up to people) and had to go out of town unexpectedly last week. She immediately took to these ladies! They came to my place to watch her which was great. I am also fostering a dog and they have been walking him for about 2 weeks now and he goes crazy whenever one of them comes by. I know a few other folks who use their service and they all said the same wonderful things. Apparently they walk dogs longer than you pay for (if scheduling and time allows)...simply because they enjoy it (and have helped out with errands too). They come redy with treats and toys, as well as photos/videos for you to see. Their email is EEpets@hotmail.com. They're working on a website, etc., but are trying to grow via word-of-mouth and personal recommendations. Eva and Engela are worth it!!!

Rental Spaces for event (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by iluvbrooklyn on Fri Aug 08, 08 1:53 pm

I'm in search of a space in Brooklyn which would be appropriate for an event with about 100 or less people. Does anyone have any suggestion?? Preferably not a restaurant or someplace with a caterer already attached to it. A view would be ideal, but not necessary.

Thanks for your help

Any comments on 150 Joralemon building? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by fishermb on Mon Aug 04, 08 11:42 am

Hey all, I've been renting in the Heights for a while now and looking to make a purchase some time in the near future. I see very reasonable-looking listings pop up at 150 Joralemon every so often, with 2-bedrooms even going below 500K. The maintenance charges are a bit over the norm for square footage, but is there anything else wrong with this building as to why its prices are often substantially below neighborhood medians?

Bike Lane on Henry Street (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by LimestoneKid on Sun Jul 27, 08 8:14 pm

This is probably an old & worn out subject but what's with the churchgoers who seem to feel that it's their god-given right to park in the bike lane on Henry Street while they attend church on sunday mornings?

Do they ask for the absolution of their sins while their in church or do they not perceive their parking in the bike lane as a sin?
