    Book Fair in September (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by Gieris on Thu Jun 18, 09 10:09 pm

Why are the prices for vendors so high at the Book Fair? Due to the economic times, they should be lower. Any thoughts?

    THE ST GEORGE TOWER ORAL HISTORY EXPERIMENT is online (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by thedragonslayer on Thu Jun 18, 09 9:00 pm

Who is the story teller in your family? The OLDEST story teller? If they grew up in Brooklyn, they have a great story about the St George Hotel back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Count on it.

Who is the family photographer? Yeah, the OLDEST one! They have photos from a very important family event that took place at the St George Hotel. There's a story there too.

A new website has been launched (2 years) to collect the oral histories and photos/clippings that tell the story of this famous New York institution. Since being written up in the Sunday Times last April, that world wide reach has caused this thing to take off. People everywhere trace their family's history to Brooklyn!!!

Go here: www.stgeorgetower.2ya.com

Grab your laptop and go visit your Grandma out at Coney! Or your Great Uncle in Bensonhurst! Or your favorite elderly neighbor next door--the great story teller--the one that'll talk your ear off! And record their thoughts and pilfer their photo albums for all of us to enjoy. And we'll share with them too!

Tell them you'll put their stories on the internet as an important history archive! Tell them you'll help them make sure their loved ones who have passed will be remembered forever too.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Check it out. We already have a large collection of letters, postcards, photos, memorabilia, and some "secret stories" that folks have never told before (told anonymously, naturally <wink>)
Hope to see you there soon.
    Fireworks????? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by gardgreg on Sat Jun 13, 09 9:02 pm
Did someone set off their stash 3 weeks early? Was this something for one of the cruise ships? Something to do with Empire State Park?
If anyone has a link that explains WHAT the heck all those fireworks that just went off were being set off for, I would greatly appreciate reading about it!
Thanks! Smile
    Coop Board Issues (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by gardgreg on Fri May 15, 09 2:26 pm
Good Afternoon,
For all of you who serve on Coop Boards (or those of you facing the issues addressed below), I would like your input on whether you have been dealing with financial issues of late with tenants who are:
1. refinancing
2. selling
and whether banks have been difficult in giving them loans/refinancing or even competitive rates due to the owner occupancy levels within your coops.
in general, can you tell me what your coops set for Owner-Occupancy levels or subletting rules in general?
Thanks,
G
    Brooklyn Heights Realtor? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by 221b on Tue May 12, 09 10:27 am
Hi All-
I am considering buying a place in Brooklyn Heights and was wondering if someone can recommend a good Realtor who focuses on BH. I have been using StreetEasy.com which is turning up some results, but I am sure there are likely locals with some connections/recommendations as well.
Many thanks in advance.
    did you grow up in Brooklyn Heights in the 1960s and 1970s? (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by jbossert on Mon May 04, 09 1:54 pm
Hello:
I'm a writer and editor based in NYC.
I'm working on a novel that is partly set in Brooklyn Heights during the above years.
I need to find a couple people who can help me with first-hand accounts of the area during these years.
Ideally, I'd like to ask you a few questions by e-mail to confirm that this will work out, and then I'd like to set up an interview.
I expect that this will take approximately two hours of your time, and I'll of course pay for the time you'll spend on this.
Please send me a message if you are interested in helping with this project.
Thanks in advance!
    Black Kitten / Cat found Saturday afternoon (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by mikelite on Sat May 02, 09 6:23 pm
we found this beautiful little guy on Jay St, in front of Bridge Fresh grocery store. he (might be a she, not the best at identifying kitten junk) didn't have tags, but didn't seem to be a stray since he was in great condition, really friendly & quite scared by all the noise. Sonya at Didi Dog graciously donated a teeny harness so we could hold onto him.
If he's yours, we brought him to the Vinegar Hill Vet Group at 57 Front St (718) 797-6875‎. They scanned him & he didn't have any of those RFID, under the fur tag thingies. If not, Dorothy at the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare is gonna arrange a foster home until he can be permanently adopted.
Film Screening: Dear Mr. President
Tuesday, June 2 at 7 pm
Dear Mr. President, by documentary filmmaker Debra Sugerman chronicles the voyage of 5 artistic young women, from the regions of Israel and Palestine, across the United States. The ultimate aim of the girls’ journey is to deliver a message to then President George Bush about the futility of war to solve the problems facing the Middle East. As the girls travel in their RV giving informal talks to the public, they find their inherited cultural barriers crumbling and fading as they come to know each other as people through art and conversation.
Hi All, I highly recommend E&E Pets if you need a dog walker. It's 2 super nice and RELIABLE ladies who both work from home and do this as a side business. My dog loves them and they usually end up walking her longer than they're supposed to and playing...they've taken her running too and she loves that. ANyway, eepets@hotmail.com ...Eva and Engela are their names.
Very Happy
    Loft Space in Dumbo on the East River with outdoor Deck (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by Rachel Rae on Wed Jan 28, 09 6:21 pm
Greetings,
I would like to update my info about my Loft space availability.
The loft is 2000 square feet of space that has recently been renovated and can be used for listening parties (for musicians) {Last Spring and summer we had many celebrity listening events}
Even though the space has been renovated it is still pretty raw and industrial (we like that look)
The out door deck is facing the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan + Williamsburg Bridge, Empire state building and the East River.
This space is also great for Small wedding Ceremonies, and Photo Shoots.
