Do you have monthly locker at Dodge YMCA? I'll pay to share!
(Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by AP on Mon Feb 22, 10 12:25 pm |
I'm a female member of the Dodge YMCA and I'd love to have a monthly locker to store my shampoo, deodorant, etc. Unfortunately, there's a LONG wait list for one of these lockers.
If you have a locker you wouldn't mind sharing with me (again, just for a few toiletries), I'd be happy to pay the monthly fee.
Please use "PM" to send me a message.
Thanks!

by anothercarolyn on Tue Jan 12, 10 6:02 pm |
Hi everyone! I am looking for a space in DUMBO to rent for an hour long event on Saturday, October 2nd that should have around 150 people. I checked out DAC, the dumbo loft, galapagos, smack mellon... the first two are booked and the latter two are way out of my budget. Does anyone know someone who rents a loft space, a roof deck, a warehouse space... anything?
Thanks for your help!

ISO: Demonstration Kitchen
(Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by Rachel Rae on Sat Jan 09, 10 8:47 pm |
Hi there,
I am looking for a showroom or for sale Luxury apt. with a working demonstration kitchen. I am looking to host about 25-35 people including chefs, Food & Wine industry professionals, as well as die-hard foodies!
I have hosted events at BoConcept in the past, but I really need a working kitchen.
This type of event could be beneficial to someone looking to sell a property in one of these very desirable locations or looking to get foot traffic through their showroom to showcase product line to industry professionals and high-end buyers.
any help I would appreciate so much!

donald fernandez from preferred appliance services
(Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by popstar0 on Tue Dec 15, 09 10:25 am |
regrettably i have to post about another rip off going on in the neighborhood. we loved donald from preferred appliance, his business, and he was reliable for many years but recently many people in the neighborhood like myself who have given him cash deposits for parts have been ripped off. no return calls, no refund, no contact. he moved from the address listed on his receipts long ago. i have seen him again in the area and feel compelled to warn everyone.
dont give him cash or you most likely will not see him again. be careful with this man. in my opinion, something has gone very wrong with him if hes ripping of clients of many years.
caveat emptor

So do we.
A website has been created to collect the photos, clippings, and long-held secrets of this famous New York landmark. It is generating some great stories.
CLICK HERE: www.TheStGeorgeTower.2ya.com
As one of the more technically able members of your family, please subscribe in order for your senior members to share their memories, listen to others with memories like theirs, and see wonderful photo albums uploaded by our nearly 200 members in a half dozen countries and 18 states (plus DC). MOST important, talk to your parents and grandparents--they have great stories that we want to hear them. They have PHOTO ALBUMS and SCRAP BOOKS and we want to "sit with them" as they tell their stories! In doing so their histories will be archived in a way that they will live on forever. Tell them THAT. See? Why not tell them they can have those memories live forever on the internet?... See what happens... We're waiting!
In a few clicks you can show them marvelous snapshots, gorgeous formal portraits (typically done by Nickerbocker Photo Studio on Clinton Street), charming first person memories, sensational newspaper stories and clippings, a growing collection of memorabilia, interesting facts, fun trivia (which famous people stayed there) and a few "secret stories". The current topics being discussed:
The Clark Street / Brooklyn Heights subway station
The 1995 Fire (one of the largest in New York history--18 alarms)
Rocky's barber shop
And, as always, The Pool
That ought to trigger some memories! : )))
Do you or your relatives have a secret story that took place there? <winkwinkwink>
Maybe it was the war years. Did you say goodbye or hello there?
Perhaps they had your wedding there. Click on the link above if you love Brooklyn history, or know someone who does.
Tell your senior family members that their entire photo albums will be scanned for them if they send an email to StGeorgeTower_photos@mac. Their memories are important history and need to be recorded...
Those who remember the St George Hotel in the 1930s, when the tower first opened, are slipping away. We want to reach out to them especially!!! Time is of the essence! Were they one of the jazz babies dancing at the open air rooftop nightclub? (AND DO THEY HAVE PHOTOS???? <LOL>)
<major wink>
See you there.

had this on the wrong board so i resent it.
wtf. has anyone noticed all the kids peeing on the monkey bars and slides in this park? i watched as a child let loose and there were no caretakers or parents doing anything about this including cleaning it up. really gross man. If these kids aren't potty trained then why are they out of diapers??? What happened to getting the kids to the bathroom proactively as they enter the park?

Good stories at the Hotel St. George Barber Shop
(Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by millzie on Fri Jul 03, 09 2:22 pm |
I found a great place to get a haricut and catch up on some colorful history.
The two barber/stylists have the most exciting stories to tell of past literary, political and sports figures who lived in Brooklyn Heights.
It's located at the 2/3 Clark St station in the Hotel St. George.

THE ST GEORGE TOWER ORAL HISTORY EXPERIMENT is online
(Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo)
by thedragonslayer on Thu Jun 18, 09 9:00 pm |
Who is the story teller in your family? The OLDEST story teller? If they grew up in Brooklyn, they have a great story about the St George Hotel back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Count on it.
Who is the family photographer? Yeah, the OLDEST one! They have photos from a very important family event that took place at the St George Hotel. There's a story there too.
A new website has been launched (2 years) to collect the oral histories and photos/clippings that tell the story of this famous New York institution. Since being written up in the Sunday Times last April, that world wide reach has caused this thing to take off. People everywhere trace their family's history to Brooklyn!!!
Go here: www.stgeorgetower.2ya.com
Grab your laptop and go visit your Grandma out at Coney! Or your Great Uncle in Bensonhurst! Or your favorite elderly neighbor next door--the great story teller--the one that'll talk your ear off! And record their thoughts and pilfer their photo albums for all of us to enjoy. And we'll share with them too!
Tell them you'll put their stories on the internet as an important history archive! Tell them you'll help them make sure their loved ones who have passed will be remembered forever too.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Check it out. We already have a large collection of letters, postcards, photos, memorabilia, and some "secret stories" that folks have never told before (told anonymously, naturally <wink>)
Hope to see you there soon.
Did someone set off their stash 3 weeks early? Was this something for one of the cruise ships? Something to do with Empire State Park?
If anyone has a link that explains WHAT the heck all those fireworks that just went off were being set off for, I would greatly appreciate reading about it!
Thanks!
