Uhuru (the Kiswahili word for “freedom”) is a series of creative movement classes featuring a combination of song, dance, and play – designed to ignite children’s creative voices and nurture their freedom of expression. Olatunji is proud to continue Jamie Philbert’s signature pedagogy and help build a foundation for a life-long creative practice.

This is a lively class for toddlers who are comfortable on their feet, featuring games, interactive stories, and dance, drum, and song sequences. Parent/guardian participation is required.

For ages 1-2, class includes 35 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes of free play.

The Oranim Early-Childhood Program of Windsor Terrace is hosting winter informational sessions for parents, as registration is now ongoing for the 2016-17 school year.

Bharathi and Jyotsna are two artists accomplished in the Indian Dance form, Bharatanatyam. Bharathi is the lead protagonist of the Indian National Award Winning documentary, O Friend, This Waiting and Jyotsna is a disciple of esteemed scholars  the Dhananjayans. 

Our first event - EKA : A Tryst with the Divine, which featured a live music ensemble of talented musicians was a full house! We performed the same at the SAIPAF 2015 and for the Curtain Raiser Event of the India Day Parade 2015 at the Indian Consulate. We recently did a video shoot for a dance series which airs in Spring of 2016!

We currently have classes in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Vocal & Hindustani Vocal, for kids and adults in Manhattan & Park Slope Brooklyn! Also looking to expand in the Fort Greene area. Cindy is an exceptional nanny. She is responsible, trustworthy, kind and caring. 
She cared for our children with great love and devotion to the extent that, to our delight, our children became enormously attached to her having earned both their love and respect. 
Cindy joined us shortly after the birth of our youngest daughter Dana. She lovingly cared for her on a daily basis from the morning hours until the late afternoon when we returned from work. We fully trusted her with the care of our newborn baby and the close relationship she has developed with Dana is a testament to her gentle and devoted nature. 
As Dana entered day care at age two Cindy’s role transitioned to picking up Dana and our older children from day care/school and caring for them until the early evening hours. She also cared for them during school holidays and sick days. 
We have always felt secure knowing Cindy is with our children. Her calm and loving personality radiates to all around her. Cindy also has a remarkable ability to connect to children of all ages and has forged strong and independent relationships with each of our children.

We view Cindy as part of our family. She has certainly been that for the past three years. Our relocation out of the Tri-State area is the sole reason we are compelled to part ways with Cindy at this time.

We feel blessed to have had her with us for this time period and are certain that any family that employs her as nanny will feel the same. We will gladly provide additional information as needed.

Brooklyn Ice will offer free ice skating classes on Mondays and Wednesdays afternoon, with on-ice skating instruction, off-ice fitness, homework help, and lots more.  Program time is from 4:00 pm to 6:30.  The skating program ends with an ice skating show for the Brooklyn community in March 2015.

Science Saturdays is 4-week, inquiry-based program for young scientists age 4 to 8. This program meets from 10am to 12pm at 527 Rogers Avenue. Each week focuses on a specific theme that is presented through hands-on exploration. Space in this program is limited! We maintain a small child-to-teacher ratio in order to provide young scientists with individualized attention.

Science at Lark is for young scientists age 2-5 and their caregiver. This workshop meets on Mondays, from 11am to 11:45 at Lark Cafe. Our mixed age group approach provides children the opportunity to explore and learn together in a supportive environment.

Launching in September, the City Scientists program is a fun, hands-on workshop for preschoolers age 3-5. We meet on Thursdays from 12:45pm to 2pm at Paradigm Kids in Manhattan.

8 and Up is teaching creative entrepreneurship to kids in a hands-on, fun way using gadgets, games, science, math and 3D printers. The Fall classes will be in Brooklyn.

In 2012, Immaculate Heart of Mary school and Holy Name of Jesus School schools merged and reformed as St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy. My personal thoughts on the school...

PRO

• Great location near the Western entrance to Prospect Park

• In front of 15th/Prospect Park subway station (G and F line)

• Surprisingly reasonable tuition

• Pre-K through 8th grade classes

• Edwardian era architecture (not the penitentiary feel of many post-war built schools)

• Inclusive, non-snobby atmosphere

• No (or very few) hyper-competitive, helicopter parents

CON

• Some parents still a little sensitive about the closure of their old school and hold strong partisan loyalties to their old school identities.

• Parking/Drop-Off area is a bit of a mess in the mornings (much easier to use the subway)
