I spotted this at the NW corner of Atlantic Avenue and Washington Avenue on a Sunday afternoon. I wonder why these people thought this was an appropriate way to get message of veganism across.

Not much activity in this board so I thought I'd try to get some going...

As an avid non-professional photographer living in Brooklyn I find there to be an overabundance of photographic subjects and people in Brooklyn. For all of the Brooklyn photographers out there, lets discuss our favorite locations and photographic hangouts.

I will start - having recently moved to Windsor Terrace I have been spending most of my photography time at Prospect Park, especially around the lake and some of other less busy areas nearby.

I came across this on my way home from the Prospect Park train station last night:

THE JOURNEY OF A BRIDGE

After over 100 years of support of the Willis Avenue Bridge (70,000 vehicles / day) located in New York, everything was ready for retirement and replacement.

The new bridge made of steel, had a structure 105 meters long, 20 meters high and 23 meters wide; reaching 2.3 million kilograms.

He had been prefabricated in a huge construction yard near Albany, New York and would have to be transported more than 160 miles to get to your new home.

Photographer Stephen Mallon took over 30,000 images to compose this timelapse of shipment and installation of the Willis Avenue Bridge, which connects Manhattan to the Bronx in New York. The move came in the summer of 2010 and, as they say in Wikipedia, leave speechless a few passersby who saw a bridge climb of over 100 meters and 2,400 tons by the Hudson River to the Harlem River. The sequence summarizes the whole process in four minutes.

Hi Lost!

Greetings from the Upper Mid West where we are having a cold snap and the wind chill factor is considerably lower than ZERO. Ouch!

I have a suggestion for a photo topic -- having grown up in East New York, I remember several abandoned synagogues there and in Brownsville. I would like to know if any of those old buildings are still standing and would greatly appreciate photos of those buildings (inside and outside, if possible) with their precise location. Please post as many photos as you can.

Seatrain workers on a break at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, 1977. One of several hundred photos donated by Frank J. Trezza, long-time electrician at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Most are from 1973-1978, when Trezza worked for Seatrain Shipbuilding.

Trezza's work provides an inside view of the Navy Yard during the final years of shipbuilding.

Like it or not, the Barclays arena seems to be coming

For those of you unaware, today is the last day you will EVER have the pleasure/displeasure of driving your car along Fifth Avenue from Flatbush to Atlantic. ....The road will be closed on 2/1/10. These folks are were among the last ones.

For history buffs: There was a guy, Daniel Goldstein, who tried to fight the Arena project, because -among other concerns- he would have to move because he lived in its planned footprint..

Needless to say, he lost his battle.
He is presently among the last residents living in the soon-to-be-demolished building. Is it right to assume this classic sign is in either his (or his partner's) handwriting?

Finally, heres a picture taken from the 6th Ave Bridge looking at the site of where arena will be built. (The 6th Ave bridge itself will be closed soon, but has a few more weeks of service left in it. I'll try be back to take its picture on its last day of service)

nothing like taking a few low quality photos on a Sunday afternoon... comments welcome.
