It is a familiar story:

In this case, it involves Coney Island. Parts of it were rezoned several years ago to allow dense, tall residential buildings. However, most residents were not upset because they were either not aware of the implications, or could not imagine that the buildings would actually be built.

Now that the economics make sense, the buildings are coming and residents think they should be able to stop them:

And, over the next few years, they realize that this is not how development or democracy happens.

It only needs to be a room that can hold 2-3 banquet tables. This space would be used until end of February. Donated space for this expensive and not funded effort would be a blessing.

Our vet fees are at $13,000 we need Community Support. Recovery Space and Donations to vet, feed and transport is urgently needed.

the Senior Umbrella Network of Brooklyn as guest speakerJudith
Grimaldi, Esq. of Grimaldi & Yeung, LLP discusses new Medicare regulations
that affect patients receiving services such as SNF, home health care, physical
therapy, etc.Now “improvement” is no longer the standard. The
settlement of the case Jimmo vs Sebelius requires
that these services be based on patient

improvement - even if the need is only to maintain a level of function.
This is good news for patients who have been denied coverage of these services

The Coney Island lots where cats are routinely dumped have become Killing Fields. The bulldozers have rolled over lots full of 8 week old kittens and old, debilitated cats. One day after bulldozing, a mom cat was looking for her kittens after a Community Garden was demolished without warning. Now, the cats are being treated like the Rats that once roamed the Boardwalk. The cats that escaped now have no shelters. These cats are exposed to the bitter winds that come off the ocean and they will either freeze to death or die slowly of starvation. Some of these cats managed to survive Hurricane Sandy – can they take much more? Water freezes before they can drink it and so does canned food; dry food gets blown away or trashed by those with no concern for their lives. I am asking for Compassionate and Enlightened people to help correct this situation. I am asking anyone with an empty basement or space to help with these cats – THIS IS OUR BIGGEST NEED. If you can’t participate physically or by donating Recovery Space, please make a donation to help with the many obstacles in helping these cats that we will encounter:For more information about what you can do to help and to make a donation: http://josephinemarrero.wix.com/coney-island-cats- If you can do the ULTIMATE and help us with Recovery Space for just 2 months we need to fit 3-5 banquet tables in the room and we can TNR 23 cats at one time! brooklyn.rescue.umbrella@gmail.com

Tell New York City’s Parks Department not to destroy one of New York’s authentic jewels, the world-famous Coney Island Boardwalk! If the Parks Department has its way, the Boardwalk will be turned into a concrete sidewalk! The New York City Design Committee will meet on this issue on January 30th, so there's not much time. We need your help today!

Here's what you can do:

1. Sign this petition at change.org

http://www.change.org/petitions/keep-the-boards-in-the-coney-island-boardwalk-no-concrete-and-save-the-rainforests

Please visit the site again EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE ALREADY SIGNED, because many signatures were not recorded, due to a glitch in the system.

If you see a blue phrase "Inside U.S.," you MUST click on this before signing. You'll know your signature has gone through when you see a page that says, "Thanks for signing."

2. If you have the time and you don't happen to be working that day, please set aside Monday, January 30th and join a group of concerned citizens at the next New York City Design Commission meeting. Here's how it works: each person who shows up gets three minutes (and only three minutes) to speak to the Commission. The more people who show up, the more time we get. The meeting time hasn't been set yet, but the last one was in the late morning. It will definitely be during business hours. If you can show up, please reply to this post.

Thanks!
