Of course prices everywhere are through the roof, but is it insane to pay over $1000/sq ft in Gowanus? I know the area is on an upswing and there's going to be rezoning and all. But is that just too damn high for a condo at this point?

My girlfriend and I went to the Ample Hills Creamery Gowanus location for the first time last night -- Saturday, July 19th -- and unfortunately she got very, very sick immediately afterward. Hours-long sick. She had two scoops of the salted crack caramel, and I had two scoops of Guinness and pretzels. I was perfectly fine. I'm not sure if this particular batch of salted crack caramel was tainted, but I've never seen her in remotely that much discomfort after eating any kind of ice cream. Wondering if anyone else has had a problem after eating there yesterday. I know they pasteurize their own milk there, so I'm not sure if it really was a bad batch or if the pasteurization process they use somehow didn't agree with her.

Ortega y Gasset Projects is pleased to host The Gaps Between Us, an exhibition of work by MICA Low-Residency MFA candidates Damon Arhos, Sarah Clough Chambers, Suzy Kopf, and Kirk Daniel Palmer. The exhibition runs from Friday, August 21 to Sunday August 30. There will be a reception for the artists on Friday, August 21, 6-8pm. The exhibition will be open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays 1-6pm or by appointment.

Working from traditions of painting, the artists in this show use the formats of painting to explore a diverse range of themes related to contemporary American culture. These include leisure culture, personal histories, queer identity, and the nature of perception. A unifying theme of the work is the relationship to traditional approaches to painting, while simultaneously pushing the limits if the medium's scale and material presence. Perhaps most importantly, personal friendship unifies this group of individuals, each of whom occupies a different age bracket and each of whom have a unique biography. Their identity as a group speaks to the potential for visual art to diminish separateness and create new paths of communication among individuals who are otherwise quite different from one another.

The MICA Low-Residency program is an unconventional course of study for the MFA degree. In place of the traditional two-year program, Low-Residency convenes over four summer sessions at the MICA campus in Baltimore, MD. For the remainder of the year, students have the option to live and maintain a studio practice elsewhere. This model attracts students from diverse geographical locations and cultural backgrounds, and often with expertise in other fields.

This exhibition is organized by Ortega y Gasset member Eric Hibit.

Also on view: a site-specific installation in the gallery vestibule by George Rush

Upcoming: Color Against Color, curated by Eric Hibit, opens Sept. 11, 2015

Ortega y Gasset Projects, 363 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215

oygprojects.com

We live on 4th ave near 10th st and recently noticed the train has been really barelling through the neighborhood, starting a week or so ago. It seems like an express that goes by 4x an hour. We never used to notice it and are not usually bothered by noise etc, but everything in our house rattles like crazy and its driving us nuts, esp at night. Theres nothing we can do about it right? Anyone else noticed this? Seems unsafe to me.

I wonder how long it’ll take until the city fixes it… I’m guessing the city will wait until after there’s an accident in which someone gets seriously hurt, and then decide it’s time to fix it.
