Hey, anybody from Montreal or used to live there at any point? We (couple with 1 year old) are considering a move there, and would love to hear the chat from somone with opinions on the city in general, good nabes and bad nabes, cost of living, so forth.

Please PM me with any helpful stuff - or point me in the direction of a great Montreal website where I can chat to locals?

Any guidance greatly appreciated :)

    As like all of Canada, you can buy a house with the original family for $10.00 Yankee. Well maybe not in Vancouver. Canukia's the third world of North America. Montreal is a very beautiful city. Great Poutain and fries. Wine country about 20 minutes outside of the city. Alafair.., Carnivore and myself were talking about Montreal this past weekend actually.

    Funny this should come up. I'm going there next month, anything I should check out that isn't obvious? I haven't been in about 10 years, I'm sure plenty has changed.

    I'm not really familair with the 'hoods of Montreal. The last time I went I explored everything by foot. Lonely Planet is a good guide for things like this. The book tell you when and where everything is happening. One of the vineyards I ran into is called Dietrech-Joos. If you want to use Mapquest they're located at: 407 Grande-Ligne, Iberville, St-Jean-sur-Richeliu, Quebec J2X-4j2 (450) 347-6857. There's a whole stretch of vineyards in that area and it should only be 20-45 minutes outside of Montreal. You should also try Quebec City if you have the time. That place is just plain fucking beautiful. I'd take a ferry though. When I drove all the bridges to the city were gridlocked and parking was hard to come by in the streets. Enjoy the poutain and the cherry flavored Kit Kats.

    My dear, you will have no idea what kind of candy bar utopia exists in Canukia unless you go there. When I was in the Maritimes last summer I felt like Homer Simpson having the Hersheyland tasting facility all to himself.

    as long as we can make a brief (4 hours?) detour to the casino in Montreal, I'm there.

    I didn't know Montreal had casinos. Not that it matters. One million of their "loons" won't exchange for ten of our dollars.

    About that chocolate utopia:
    I am about to get a little present mailed by a Montrealese. I have never been there. Should I be requesting something in particular? I love a regional KitKat, but cherry is not right for me . . .
