I had a terrific lunch here some time ago .

This evening we took a friend out for her Birthday.

Hubbie was looking for a someplace special and suggested so we went. My lunch experience 6 months ago was lovely but I hesitated on the dinner plan. To me this was a "lite lunch" place and get in there and out while "young people are at work and too busy to enjoy a leisurely meal" kind a place.

My apologIes to EVERYONE!

It was terrific.. Excellent pizza. I grew up on DiFaro pizza (yeah I have mentioned this before) but tonight the pizza was beyond that standard of excellent. The crust was thin but so perfectly done it held in a loving embrace what was upon it. Brocoli Rabe with sausage, cabbage salad, amazing plate of "cold cuts" ( made on site), pasta was fusilli , sausage and magic seasonings. Great bottle of wine to go with all that.

Think small plate concept but every offering was so perfect that you didn't need volume ON the plate to fill your stomach and your spirit.

There was some music in the background but totally not intrusive. The level of conversation was on the loud side.. but I loved it. What is not to love about small groups of people having a good time with their friends?

The last time I ate here was with my adult son and a well behaved toddler and that was lunch. That was different crowd, different experience but still excellent food. It took a long time for a return visit but truly I was so impressed this evening!

I am interested if I just had an enchanted evening or has anyone eaten there recently who was impressed?

Just in from the CGGH newsgroup...you have got to be kidding me?

Quote:

[Ccgh_Update] Yet another issue on 23rd St and 7th Ave...

While most of you know I can worry a wee bit too much about the small stuff, but also have the good sense to rail against the big stuff...

Big stuff topics!

PART 1:
As Mic and I rounded the corner of 23rd St and 7th Ave, in front of our fav "614 7th Ave (aka The Minerva building)" development site, we noticed something missing.

"Gee, didn't we have a street lamp and post on the corner?" So as we stood in front of the new 620 7th Ave, noticed the curb cuts (again) and realized the pole and lamp were gone. Next was a stop to our friendly neighbor next door to the development site on 22nd St. Seems "the developer was concerned about the street light shinning into the windows of his new condos," and asked DOT/Con Ed to remove the light. "It's not like there's not another light across the street," he was overheard saying.

WTF! On a dead end, one-way blind corner, across from the Cemetery (beautiful, but obviously non-residential as we know it) you are going to ask (or demand) to have a street light removed? How about consulting the community? How about having DOT do a traffic/safety study? (see attached photos)

I have personally had countless conversations with my neighbors about the danger of this corner (both by car, bike and pedestrian) especially at night, going back to 2004, pre-condo. And now with 11 new 50 ft tall buildings, 11 new garages (plus cars), curb cuts galore and additional people living on the block you remove a street light?

Traffic accidents? Potential crime issue? Accident from a car pulling in/out of one of the new garages?

NO WAY. I have contacted Community Board 7 and will be reaching out to DOT, Con Edison and our local electeds to address this problem. If I'm incorrect, and this is hearsay, then fine.. But the track record of this development makes me lean the other way and hard. I encourage ANYONE who feels this is an issue, safety or otherwise, to call or e-mail CB7 and our elected officials tomorrow.

PART2:
In addition to the potential safety hazard, we have another problem on the block...the street tree in front of the new 322 23rd St, or rather, along the garage entrance. Next from my good friend on 22nd St. comes the fear we have had since the "curb cuts" debate began...the removal of a well established, fully healthy street tree.

This was brought to DOB's attention 2+years ago, but nothing was done to rearrange the curb cuts, nor forbid garages at 322-323 23rd St. due to the tree. So as our Mayor busts humps all over the City to get every dead tree pit filled and new ones place in via the 1Mil tree program, this development crew is looking to remove a 15+ year old tree...for parking. That's ZERO adjacent trees on these properties, due to the curb cuts, plus the loss of a well established tree.

I say NO WAY! Again, I have reached out to CB7 and will be to parks and our electeds. I strongly urge all of you to do the same. Especially as we embark this spring on a community clean-up and beautification project!

I am tired of our community being treated like crap by this development team (past and present). The time to act (again) is now.

Anyone have a take or more info on this?

hi we are a couple married almost five years with two toddlers one yr and two yrs. old. We are self employed and have been for 4 months i can prove that i reported our income last year. We are in need of a 3 bedroom one bathroom First floor with yard access. i need a first floor as stairs are difficult for me i am also on SSI please we would like a landlord that LOVES their building just as much if not MORE than we would love living IN it. meaning i want repairs done pronto as fast as ya can get them done and not cheap temporary repairs that will need repaired again in weeks. This is the issue we had with our current landlord(slumlord). Im not wanting ANY above first floor because of my disability no exceptions. yard access does not have to be rear it can be side or front. a park nearby does not mean there is a yard... for all you that did that one to me told me ya had a yard and it was ya counting the park on the next block. you know who you are...email me here or i am on AIM jensule1
We dont have parties and we dont use drugs. we smoke cigarettes but outside for our kids and we like to bbq in the summers this is why we want a yard accessible...

I live in Park Slope on 9th Street. We have a front garden and a back garden that I have maintained myself for the last 30 years but I am getting older and this season I need someone to help me maintain the gardens.

This would be light yard work.. Things like raking and some weeding. The main part of the job would actually be new plantings in the back garden. I would want you get started in mid April. The digging and bending are what I want to avoid. We live and work in the building so the actual day or hours would be very flexible.
I am not looking for a "gardener" but it would be nice to have something who has an affinity for plants and gardens.

If you want more information please pm me and we can talk about it.

There is a sweet as can be female pitbull tied up outside Met Food for the past 3 hours. She has no tags or id, so I'm assuming that the chances are good that she is abandoned. I went in to every store on the block and no one claimed ownership. I'm unable to keep her, so I was wondering if anyone knew of local rescue groups (Sean Casey is unable to pick her up) and I don't want to contact ACC since they'll probably just put her down.

Reliving the Exodus: Exploring the Modern Day Relevance of an Ancient Event

As part of our ongoing adult education program we invite you to join us for a special Passover class led by Rabbi Ari Kirschenbaum titled: Reliving the Exodus. Exploring the Modern Day Relevance of an Ancient Event.

Every year the Passover Seder beckons us to once again “travel” the road out of Egypt. On this night we are called on, not only to remember, but to relive the Exodus in body and soul.
As we re-create the story in ritual and song, we are transported back to the age of the Pharaohs, retracing our ancestors’ steps, in the land of the Nile over 3300 years ago.

But what is the point of our Passover play-acting? How can a tale from the dawn of our ancient history shed light on our complex lives – in this modern day and age? Join us as we explore in depth, the answers to these questions.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and Kosher Passover.

Rabbi Ari Kirschenbaum
Director

Monday Evening
March 15, 8:00pm
Cong. Kol Israel of Prospect Heights
603 St Johns Pl.

No fee. Open to all. Light refreshments served. Sponsors welcome.

Subway 2/3/4/5/ to Franklin Ave.
For more information call 347.787.0864

This is somewhat of a poll question.

I'm curious to know what side of the sidewalk do people walk their dogs on?

Do you walk them on the inside of the sidewalk, next to the stoops and store fronts, or do you walk them on the outside of the sidewalk, next to the curb?

Cheers!

My aunt and uncle are coming to town in a couple of weeks. I wanted to do something fun with them and show them around Manhattan and Brooklyn. I was going to do the Seinfeld tour as they were huge fans of the show but the tour guide it out of town. Any suggestions on fun, (can be off the beaten path) things to do?

Thanks in advance.

Police probe alleged home invasion in Crown Heights

(03/09/10) BROOKLYN - Several armed men allegedly stormed into a Crown Heights apartment overnight and threatened a family, witnesses say.
Tuesday morning, police were collecting evidence from the crime scene at the intersection of Lincoln Place and Franklin Avenue.

Tony Fisher, the owner of Fisher's Supermarket, says a man who escaped from the apartment ran into his store, dressed only in a T-shirt and boxer shorts, begging for help.

"He was obviously in shock [and] said that they invaded his house and [are] holding his family hostage," Fisher says.

No information has been released regarding possible suspects.

Yay! We have got some great press on the intersection.

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/brooklyn/.....s_blast_intersection.html

http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/33/11/33.....1_sb_washington_mess.html

I called the DOT, who had told the press there would be a signal crossing "later this year" and that temporary measures would be implemented in the interim. In reality, when I spoke to the DOT, I was told that the median strip project would start on 7/5/10 to be completed 18 months later, with the new walk/don't sign to be completed in the last phase. When I asked that they push the 77th Precinct for interim solutions (crossing guards, police enforcement) I was told that was a different dept. & I should call the PD myself, again. They said maybe they could help get a flagman during construction. They were not concerned about the stats regarding pedestrian accidents.

Hopping mad, I called Tish James' office, again. They are going to see if they can get some other electeds involved as they have already reached out to the PD themselves. BTW, this intersection lies at the crossroads of the 77th & 71st (I think?), but also is the line between the Brooklyn North & Brooklyn South commands, which is apparently an even bigger deal. Not to mention the divide between Community Boards & School Districts. In other words, No Man's Land!

Last, if you would like to go on record as a concerned citizen, please complete the SHORT survey I created & send to your friends: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KZN6V32

While I am buoyed by this press, it is clear that this isn't a done deal & it is key that we show electeds & various agencies that there is critical mass.

So I was reading ILoveFranklinAvenue's blog and someone mentioned in a comment a place called the Red Lotus Room. In googling, all I can find is three things:

1. It's at 893 Bergen (between Classon and Franklin)
2. It's mentioned twice on 4-square as a place people are
3. It is called the Red Lotus Room Cabaret one of those times.

Anyone know what it is? Is it a club that hosts parties? A venue for performances? A bar that is secret?

Anyone know anything? Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I have an exhibition of my artwork at the Brooklyn Public Library, the main branch at Grand Army Plaza, up now through the end of May. It's in three cases along the wall of the 2nd floor balcony. The works are woodcut prints depicting wild animals found in Brooklyn. No coyotes, but lots of other cool creatures. Check it out next time you're at the library.
