Yeah, Lisa showed me what she was ordering as well. Fabulous. I love this store.

not very much. if you need a new suit, head to talbots - they carry, in stock, both plus and plus-petite sizes. _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

Thanks for the tip. I checked out Lee Lee's today and it was lovely. I totally cleaned up, and though I dropped a lot of cash, I really got a lot for my money. Lisa was very helpful and energetic and we loved both her and her husband. My friend who is a size 12 also loved everything that she tried on. We will be living in that store!
I finally found something to buy there and because I have such an issue buying dresses (I'm two different sizes on the top and bottom) I learned they also have a tailor that will alter things. I won't find out the price until I pick up my dress but thats good news. I'm very bad about bringing things into get tailored when I buy them. I still would like if they carried more sundresses that aren't made of polyester but I'm very happy with the cotton one I found.

The best I've found for plus-size business clothess is Saks, but it is soooo expensive that I have yet to buy anything there. You could easily drop a thousand or even two thousand on one outfit, however it would be beautiful. I'm told they have good sales. I also go to Nordstrom.com, look at their plus sizes, they have sales, too.

Slightly OT - A little tip for those high end stores - find a salesperson in the section/designer you like. Inform them that you are on a really tight, tight budget and could they call you when the suit you like will or is on sale. When I pick up my clothes I try to give them a little tip ($5-10) which they never accept so instead I send a nice note to the store informing them how helpful their salesperson was. You are happy, the salesperson is happy and now you have created a great relationship that will save you lots of $$$.

I went the store last week and was so happy to have so many choices. I also discovered some great new designers that I hadn’t heard of. Lisa was really sweet, and she gave all of us (there were at least eight other people shopping there) her personal attention. It felt good to have someone attend to you, I’m used to being totally ignored.
I walked out of Lee Lee’s with two dresses by Sangria, one Fashion Overdose t-shirt and of course the next best thing invented - spanks.
Lisa also told me about a beach party they’re having on July 21st…….I am so there, I do need a new bathing suit.
I went back again yesterday and got this fabulous pink gown by Tadashi, I feel very va va va voom in this dress

Thanks for the recommendation about this store. This was the first time in a really long time that I had fun shopping. Loved what I bought- will definitely be back. Definitely worth a visit if you are size 12 or over.

Oh my goodness! I have to say THANK YOU for this thread!! As a plus sized girl who practically lives and breathes Lane Bryant, it is SO AWESOME to discover there are other clothing options here in NYC... I'll have to check these stores out ASAP!

fyi, there is a great store in London called Duo but you can order their products online. basically, they do boots in a ton of calf sizes. I LOVE that I now have knee high boots in my size. so happy.
Wow, the Duo site is great. I haven't had a pair of non-lace up tall boots pretty much ever. Even when I was a lot thinner I have always had big calves. How fabulous...thanks so much.
There's also a site based here in the U.S., widewidths.com, that I imagine has cheaper shipping, although I haven't looked at it in a while and don't know how their styles compare. They used to have a shop in Tribeca but closed down a year or two ago -- pity.

What size lingerie do they carry? Since I'm big on top with a long torso, I've been wearing plus-size bathing suits even when I was a size 4. And usually in lingerie, I end up in plus sizes as well. It's really disheartening to walk into a store and find that they don't make cute bras in a D cup. I always get pointed to the Fortinbras! section where all the bras are really ugly, only in two colors, and come with so much hardware that I tend to swim in them since I don't need that much support. I've been wearing these undershirt type bras that are real cute. They're like sport bras but with less support. However, I'm getting to the point where I do need more support, but not the post-maternity kind. The problem I have with Victoria's Secret is that all their bras are padded. I'm big enough already. WHY do I need more padding? I stopped wearing those bras because they make me look HUGE and my clothing just gets so tight that it's Not Work Appropriate. Plus I'm really not a fan of underwire bras, though I'll wear them when I need to. I'm probably about a 38D now.
As a former model, I can tell you that there is almost ZERO demand for a model who is size 8-10. If I were still interested in modeling and a size 12, I could get work as a plus size, but I'm really too small for that now. And I'm too big for the other end. Fortunately, right now I don't give a crap.
Size 8 may be considered fat, but I've never had anyone give me grief about it since I've become one. In fact, I'm getting more acting work and more attention from men since I've become an 8, so YMMV. I'm also the kind of person who has never stressed about body image and weight before and I'm not about to start now. The only person who is allowed to call me fat is my doctor, so as long as I'm healthy, I'm fine with the size I am.

I love the way you complain and whine about being a size 8 while ostensibly telling us how fine you are with it. But honey, if you think a size 8 is plus size, you DO have body image problems. Considered fat? by who, anorexics? 14 year old models? Uh, no. sorry. get over it. this thread is for large women who are happy to be able to shop in a place that doesn't judge or compare, that helps us feel good about ourselves instead of setting us up to feel like crap. You have NOTHING to feel bad about and whining about being fat when you're a size 8 is ridiculous in this context. Despite your protestations, you at least feel that you're supposed to feel bad about being a size 8 and indeed you may in fact feel bad about your current size and pain is pain and I don't want to demean your feelings, but it's just plain bad taste to complain about being a size 8 here.
I'm tempted to say, I'd kill to be a size 8. but that's just the same (not so) disguised self hate thing. The point of this thread is, at least for me, that I'm the size I am and I want to buy beautiful clothes that look great on who I am now and this great store has opened up right here in Brooklyn where the clothes are lovely and the owner is lovely and you walk out feeling great and when you wear the clothes you get lots of compliments and feel beautiful. Don't want to hear any self-loathing here, no matter how cagily expressed.
And, FYI, she has a great selection of bras.

Actually, if you read for content, I was replying to an earlier post on how a size 8 is considered fat, at least by Hollywood standards. Which both you and I know to be ridiculous. I was also correcting the impression that plus-size models are a size eight, and from experience, I know that you have to be at least a size 12 to be a plus-size model. If I *cared* about modeling anymore, I would be whining, because at my size, there really isn't much work except for occasional commercial print. But I don't.
I am happy to be my size. I look better. I feel better. And clothes are easier to buy. And I'm really glad that there are more options for bigger women now. (I think I might need a new pair of boots from Duo. My beefy calves busted my last pair.)
Nope. Not whining. Except about bras. Thanks for playing.

Listen Lilbang, with all do respect, you seem to be whining and bragging your way across all the board. Maybe just take a second to listen to the tone and wording you use. That's why people are getting annoyed.
You post the first thing out of your head, you regale us with non sequitur remembrances, you revive old threads for little reason.... Anyways, food for thought. Carry on.

they carry many sizes in lingerie though i don't think they're stocking bathing suits at the moment. if you're looking for an expert lingerie fitting, though, try intimacies on the ... upper east side? they come in the dressing room, measure you and get you into a bra that fits perfectly. both at lee lee's and intimacies, though, we're talking over $50 for a bra. _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

Never under estimate the importance of a good bra.
I have to check out this intimacies place. Lee Lee's didn't have that many bras in stock when Alfy and I went last weekend. What they did have was pretty though.

OK so I went there today looking for a cocktail dress and they do have some really nice ones but the two I liked they didn't have my size. I did notice that they have some really beautiful wool coats but I didn't have too much time to browse them. But this is definitely a place I will be back to.
Of course I had to stop at Monteleone's on my way back

I'm too lazy to find a better thread for this, but people interested in Lee Lee's might like this resale/vintage store:
Quote:
Re/Dress NYC is a buy * sell * trade resale
establishment. Based on the store's style,
size and seasonal needs, women are offered
either 25% of the resale price in cash
or 40% store credit for the clothing selected
by the staff.
