We are pleased to announce another Festivus party, complete with feats of strength, airing of grievances, and (if we get our act together this year) a Festivus pole. Yeah, basically it's like a regular happy hour only Festivus-themed.
Location will depend on how many people want to come, so please let us know if you are interested and free on the 21st. _________________ "Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg

Read the thread from last year (above). There's extensive discussion of the origins and details of this exquisite holiday.

Should we buy a pole? The 6' one from the site Andy found last year is $38. Since I'm back in school I don't really feel like shelling out (plus, I really don't want to store it) but maybe some other kind/silly soul will be interested?
Otherwise I guess we could just get something from Pintchik's or wherever. But it would be nice to have a stand. _________________ "Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg

There was leftover cash from last week's happy hour. I was saving it to buy the first round of drinks at the next happy hour, but I could also use it to buy the Festivus pole if people prefer. _________________

couldn't we just buy a broomstick
and wrap it in aluminum foil and there would be our festivus pole?

If we are not sticking to tradition I have something we can use, it's not aluminum, but it should get the job done. We're actually having a festivus hash the night before...I stoled it from ya. _________________ For The Love Of Paris, Don't Go To The Lounge!

I'd love to come, but it will depend on whether or not I go into labor before that. If I'm still pregnant on the 21st, I'll try to come.

So does anyone have an opinion on whether I should order the Festivus pole? If we want to have it for the 21st, I have to order it soon!
Otherwise, the cash goes towards the first round of drinks... _________________

I'm pretty neutral, especially since I'm likely to miss the first round

I wouldn't bother with the festivus pole - seems like a waste of perfectly good beverage money. I vote you buy me an extra special spritzer, instead. _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

I vote for the pole because we meant to have one last year and just didn't get around to it, and because if we're going to do this, we should do it right! _________________ "Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg

If we don't get the pole, you can just add that to the list of grievances. And I'm not tryin' to get fresh with you, but do you qualify as the head of the household in Andy's absence? You might want to rethink this "do it right!" mantra!

I vote no on the pole tax. We can use anything, and that sort of commercialism is in violation of the spirit of festivus! _________________ For The Love Of Paris, Don't Go To The Lounge!

Well, I may have the most power over the board other than Andy, but I seem to recall that Carnivore won most of the thumb-wrestling last year--so I think he has to be considered the champion. _________________ "Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg

I only lost because my thumb was slightly greasy from the plate of bacon! I couldn't properly apply downward pressure without slippage while the top of my thumb was grease free and ready for the pinning.
...or at least that's my excuse.

No, the pole is made entirely of metal. Wood would be too festive. _________________ "Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg
