jesus! Right by Target and Pathmark and all that, in the middle of the day! Hard to imagine such an incident at an intersection with so much pedestrian traffic, private taxi service and just straight car and stop-light traffic. Shame.

Sadly, I don't find it hard to imagine at all -- the whole area around the Atlantic Terminal mall isn't exactly pedestrian-friendly, and people drive WAY too fast and aggressively in that area. Whenever I have to make a Target trip I find myself plotting out how best to get there without crossing any of the big streets. And it's probably only going to get worse as Ratnerville is being built.

That poor woman. I hope it was fast and painless, for her sake. Sad

That is such horrible news. I agree that the area is not pedestrian friendly, even after all of the construction. As a driver or a pedestrian, it's really not easy to navigate it. Perhaps the crew who redesigned the circle at P'spect Park can help redo the mall street layout- again.

That corner is hellacious - Ft Greene Pl is the street right between pathmark and target, that becomes 5th Ave on the other side of Flatbush. But it's exactly the route I take, since it's a bit less hellacious than crossing Flatbush at Modell's/4th Ave

I don't find it hard to imagine anywhere in Brooklyn. It's like the wild west on the streets here, markedly different from drivers in the city. I wish there could be an Operation Impact-style thing for traffic enforcement--it's badly needed.

A really sad story.

OMG. Terrible. What's scary to me is watching the moms navigating the intersection pushing strollers while holding another child's hand. What can be done? Build a crosswalk overhead like the ones in Vegas?

those crosswalks are the best thing ever. dear ratner, if you must build something horribal, please protect the people using the space by building something to make that intersection less frightening. though, crossing on something you built is psychologically terrifying. thx

Quite accurate. There is a HUGE difference between the driving here and in the City. Usually I use special secret alternate routes when I drive to help me avoid the maniacs.

There's an announcement for the victim's funeral hanging on the door of my building. It has a picture of the victim on it. Its really, really sad to put a face to the name. The service is on Thursday from 6-8pm at Emmanuel Baptist Chuch in Bklyn...so, so sad.
