Park Slope's first, indie designer market, designcollective, will be showcasing Brooklyn's hot, new, design stars with a sale, on Saturday, July 22nd from 10am-6pm, at The Old Stone House (J.J. Byrne Park, 5th Ave. between 3rd and 4th street). The indoor, air-conditioned, market offers the public the first glimpse of the forerunners of fashion in apparel, handbags, jewelry, children's clothing, accessories, and paper and lifestyle goods.
designcollective was created by Brooklyn designer, Kathy Malone, as a response to the growing need for a venue in Park Slope.
Carina Cid of Black Rabbit says, " The Brooklyn indie designer market is a fantastic way for fashionistas, shop owners, and the unique item shopper to connect with the emerging designer scene of Brooklyn. It's also a great way to find some of those off season bargains…and in my case, some one of a kind samples at great discount to the public."
The designer line up includes:
* Black Rabbit's historically inspired and sublimely witty apparel
* Kataplin children's clothing, making it as beautiful as childhood can be (http://www.kataplin.com)
* Alyson Redder's retro pop culture inspired collection (http://www.redderbetty.com)

Sounds like an excellent event. This is what I would want a street fair to be about in part. I hope the publicity on it has been good.

I swung by and checked this out. Saw BP and her (very nice) pottery. Also had some cute clothing and jewelry for sale.
I think it's on until 5 or so, so if you're around, swing by and check it out.

thanks flexi. i sold three whole pots. (and i also had a woman in a great store i love ask me to sell there.) and i met several of you in person. all in all, a good day.

glad you sold something. I was by today after brunch at Stone Park and other than the kids clothes thought it was a big yawn. Very disappointed! Also didn't appreciate being hit up for a "suggested donation" to the House when I walked in. _________________ But that's impossible.
Nobody hit me up for a donation......The space was small and a little hard to move around in, but I liked it.
I didn't have any cash or credit cards on me, so I didn't buy anything.........but I did see some really cute things.

not meaning to be a big sourpuss, feeling the need to come in and defend the market a bit...
"suggested" means just that; do you think i pay the 20+ donation to get into the met? or whatever it is at the brooklyn museum? i give them a dollar or two. or nothing, if i didn't have it.
those donations keep the historic house running (and there were, indeed, people there who'd have given you a tour if you'd inquired).
these kind of venues give indie artists an afforable place to sell. other places charge us tons of $$ just for a 6 foot space. they give us the exposure we need to make money for our work.
and thanks for complimenting my work.

That seems kind of rude to write when someone is selling their craft ware--don't you think? Would you say that to someone in person--Your opening was a big yawn? Thanks for inviting me to your party, I was bored out of my mind. Glad I caught your gig last night, your band sucks. I dozed off at your reading yesterday.
I didn't think it was a yawn at all. I bought something and thought there was some nice stuff (including the pottery). Also the donation was to open the house and not towards the designers
