I'm looking for a good nutritionist who will balance Eastern and Western philosophies. I know Park Slope is very alterna-med friendly, but I'd like a recommendation rather than going to a stranger.
I don't have any experience with the first ones listed, but I'd stay away from Heather Holistic.
I won't post my reasons here because they're private. If you are seroiusly considering using her, PM me and I may share the details.

Wow... I recommend her as she's one of my kitty clients but have never used her as a holistic counselor.... interesting

It's funny, I just saw "http://the1stwealthishealth.com/" She deals with the whole person not just food specific issues

Ugh, those graduates of the Holistic Health Counseling programme are just everywhere, like roaches..... And they're all basically useless too...

If all you want is someone to list exactly what you should eat then by all means you should go to a nutritionist but if you are someone who has issues with food and the feelings eating invokes I would suggest a Holistic Health counselor

having received holistic health counseling -- i need to strongly state that an HHC is no substitute for a qualified licensed psychotherapist/analyst.
if you suffer from anorexia/bulimia, etc... please don't think of HHC's as a substitute for traditional medicine,
in conjunction with, yes but not as a substitute for these issues

No I dont have issues with eating per se. I have had a wierd GI nausea, intestinal thing thats triggered by stress and I think food too.
I wanted to work with someone on a fasting plan, and figuring out what foods I should stay away from.
As of now, I'm staying away from coffee and alchohol, but I wanted someone to help me break down my eating habits in relation to my body type, etc.
And yes, I've seen a western medical doctor. They didnt really know what to tell me...

something to keep in mind, although it might not be the case, is whether you could have picked up an intestinal bug of some kind. by all means, go to the nutritionist, but keep it in mind.
i speak from experience. when the gf got giardia (from drinking tap water in the US, thank you very much, despite time spent in rural China), she was sick for months and no one could figure out why. at first it seemed stress-related, then maybe IBS or food allergy or celiac disease.... She had lots of tests and stopped eating practically everything (it was down to unseasoned baked fish and unseasoned boiled rice at our house. yuck) and was still sick.
she'd been tested for all kinds of things, INCLUDING GIARDIA, but it turns out that that test is notoriously difficult to get a positive result on, so a negative doesn't mean as much as you'd like to think. people were at the point of telling her she'd just always feel this way. and since sometimes were worse than others (another famous quality of giardia), some people acted like she was bringing it on herself or not really sick or god knows what.
when she finally saw a different doctor, he said "what do you mean you've been sick for months and no one's tried an antibiotic?" one 10-day course of metronidazole, and everything was better.
sorry for the soapbox -- maybe this isn't your problem -- but it really burns me when doctors [i certainly don't mean all doctors do this -- my doctor parents, for instance, kept saying "are you SURE you don't have giardia?"] act like it's your fault you're sick and don't try everything.

i had some crazy gastro thing a few years ago. after a trip to the emergency room for dehydration and days of not eating, i finally broke down and went to the doctor. of course, he had no idea what was wrong with me and just told me to take some over the counter stuff and try the BRAT diet. when that didn't work (it had now been about 5 weeks since i had any real food) i went back and asked him what foods i could eat to ease my body back into a rhythm, since i was done with toast and applesauce. of course, the idiot had no idea and just wanted to give me more pills. so, i said 'screw you' and had eggplant parm that night. everything was fine from that point forward.

Not sure what the original question even means but have you looked into gall bladder disease? I had food problems..constant indigestion, nausea... for a long time then eventually excruciating pain. What I thought was kidney stones my husband figured out was gall stones. My pain wasn't consistent with gall bladder stones so at first the doctor thought I had back/muscle spasms. After lots or tests and horrid pain I finally had my gall bladder removed along with two very large stones and I feel 100% better today. Just a thought.
