I am getting married this summer and I need an apartment for my parents, brother, and sister to rent for five days, July 22 - July 27.

I live in Park Slope and I'm looking for a place in the neighborhood. Does anyone know how I'd go about finding a place I could rent from someone for a few days?

Check the temporary/sublet section and also post your own ad with what you're looking for. I know others who have done this for visiting relatives....

There's also a hotel in the neighborhood now, Le Bleu (I think) on 4th Ave near 4th St. There are some threads on the boards about local B&Bs also.

If you're thinking about companies that have furnished apartments in a big building that they rent out usually to businesses for traveling employees, those are very expensive from what I've seen. I got to stay in a 1 bed 1 bath one in the downtown Manhattan and it was listed as $5K per week!

The House on 3rd Street, a bed and breakfast, rents a full floor of a brownstone. They've got a website.

There is also a Holiday Inn Express on Union Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues. It should be less expensive than Le Bleu.

There is a place on Carroll Street between 5th & 6th Ave that rents out part of their brownstone. It is very large and can fit a decent amount of people. My in-law have stayed there many times and I believe is $250 a night.

There is also a similar place in Prospect Heights that I've had friends stay at when in town for my wedding last yeart, not sure if there is access to a kitchen or not though. If you are interested in either of them PM me and I can get the numbers from my husband.

Thanks guys. The issue is my dad is a grouch and doesn't want to stay in a hotel. He needs his own space where there are minimal people to piss him off. Needless to say, he hates coming to NY Smile

You can also post on Prospect Heights Parents and Park Slope Parents. A number of people who will be on vacation that week, might be willing to rent out their apartments.

One of the B&Bs in a brownstones sounds about as private as any other apartments to me. Might be worth going to check out for yourself.

(I feel your pain. My dad is also a grouch and it took us 4 years to convince him to come for one visit and he says that was enough, though he did have a good time and loved the pizza.)

we've done this through craigslist. worked great. we've also had family stay in the garden apartment of garden green b&b, on carlton between park and prospect. that particular apt is too small for more than 2, but it's worth seeing if other local b&bs have a similar setup.

I own Escape Guesthouse LLC which includes a private 2BR apt. Our website is www.escapeguesthouse.com. We have another 3 BRs on our ground floor, plus more baths and the main kitchen where we offer daily fresh breakfast. Wireless DSL internet, cable TV, piano, games, quiet garden are all included. We're very popular with parents who want privacy and space while stll being close to their families. 1 block from F train at Bergen / Smith, and all those great restaurants! We have availability in July and great rates then. Please take a look! -Liz K

japes: you may want to check out www.homeaway.com. i was in the same situation last year, i found a 1-bedroom apt in windsor terrace, about 10 mins walk from my apt, for my parents, brother and other relatives who were coming for my wedding. It was for a full 3 weeks rent in total. but i believe you can find rent for few days to months on the website.
