The DOT sent out this email . . .
On Monday, July 14, new ASP regulations will take effect within the following borders of Park Slope:
North: Pacific Street (included) from 4th Avenue to 6th Avenue
6th Avenue (not included) from Pacific Street to Flatbush Avenue
West side of Flatbush Avenue (included) from 6th Avenue to Plaza Street West
East: Plaza Street West (included) from Flatbush Avenue to Union Street
Prospect Park West (included) from Union Street to Bartel Pritchard Square
Bartel Pritchard Square (included) from Prospect Park West to 15th Street
South: 15th Street (not included) from Prospect Park West to 4th Avenue
West: 4th Avenue (not included) from 15th Street to Saint Mark's Place 4th Avenue (included) from Saint Mark's Place to Pacific Street

Did anyone notice that the new parking regs in Park Slope are really much worse than before? It used to be that half the blocks (from 4th ave to 7th ave) were Mon-Tues street cleaning and the other half were Thurs-Fri. That made for a nice logical sequence where you would park on one set of blocks and then move to the other set of blocks.
Now, however, the 4th ave to 7th ave blocks are Mon-Thurs and the other half are Mon-Tues. So, for some strange reason we've got Monday street cleaning along the entire length of the streets. Sunday car moving is going to be a real nightmare now.

Yeah - this is a terrible idea. I got back to the hood around 6:30 pm and it took me a long-ass time to find a spot. There were tons of cars all driving around at the same time and I kept seeing the same ones over and over. For some reason the weeks the rule was suspended, I had no trouble parking, even on a Sunday night. But yes, the days don't make any sense now and totally screw up my parking strategies. Does anyone know why they changed the dates to this way?

Yea, I looked for parking last night and was infuriated. Basically one side of every street, from 4th ave to PPW, was off limits bc it's Monday street cleaning. It has drastically reduced the availability of parking when you return from a weekend trip. It also totally ignores the fact that most of us work and don't have the luxury of double parking during street sweeping. I ended up in a Tues spot, which means I'll be back out circling the neighborhood tonight spewing exhaust and causing traffic. Good work, DOT!
I plan on writing DOT.

The rezoned portion of 4th Ave is an R8A district, so parking must be provided for at least 40% of the units.

You don't get a building permit if you don't comply with the zoning. Of course, we all know that there have been .... problems .... with zoning compliance with a lot of new buildings in Brooklyn. Once something is built, dealing with the noncompliance is much more difficult.

Back to the subject at hand though. I am at a total loss to explain why DOT made so many streets Monday street sweeping. Take a look at this map I whipped up:
There really are limited parking options for people who go away for the weekend and come back on Sunday night, especially if you live in North Slope.
As a point of reference, most of the red streets east of 7th Ave used to be Thurs/Fri streets.

I don't have a car but just noticed our street has gone from two days a week of cleaning to half an hour 4 days!! Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday 8-8:30am. This is ridiculous, right?

Crap. I read this forum too late and got a $45 ticket. owell. On the bright side my motorcycle parked on the same side of the street didn't get one. Most likely because I had a cover on my bike.

They probably realized that most people in Park Slope who can afford a car have disposable income and they want you to dispose some of that income to the New York City Department of Finance. _________________ Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches.

I've never seen it like that! Both sides of our street have alt. side 4 days a week, during the exact same time frame.
I used to have a car and got fairly familiar with the options in Park Slope, Crown Heights and ever Prospect Heights in my CH days. I never say it where both sides had the same time, same day, and 4 days a week no less. That seems wrong.
I was wondering why I saw so many tickets on the block this week until I read the signs.

Updated the map to include all streets in the Park Slope area.
There are four main areas, as shown on the map. I guess the take home is that, whereas I never had to go north of Union to find parking, it's now pretty much a necessity.
