So, I'm walking on Flatbush this evening, leaving Natural Land. As I pass the Crunch I notice a camera crew inside. Hmmm, I think. A commercial? But then I looked closer. Some Crunch staff were standing behind the camera, looking kinda, well, googly eyed, while a staffer handed two women a piece of paper. An application form, perhaps? Next thing I know the camera crew comes bounding out of the door after these two hipster looking women, who strut their way over to Sterling Place (while seeming to have a normal he-said-she-said conversation), and get into a car.

You might have guessed what I'm getting at. I think that some of the Real World cast might be thinking about joining that Crunch--my gym.

[Aren't these kids living in BellTel? Isn't there a closer gym? Why my Crunch? Why?]

I can only hope that they'll do their filming during the middle of the day--or only take footage of a pilates class. Because if MTV thinks that it's going to get anywhere near me when I'm exercising, it's got another thing coming.

I can, however, console myself with the fact that no one I know watches the show. For the 12 year olds in Kansas who do tune in, I'll just be that old lady in the sweaty T-shirt.

Thought that BelTel was nixed for a Red Hook location at the end of the Steve's Key Lime Pies pier.

Good post. I totally found myself wanting to blurt the answer out loud as I read along. (issues? Smile )

Hah, this will be really funny to watch play out in a classic Anna Nicole train-wreck kind of way (sans sketchy ending), with all these forum and blog eyes and ears around the neighborhoods.

Release the hounds, the game is afoot! (hah)

Ooh. I have a mindbender.

They should get jobs working for the Kevin Powell campaign.

But that might somehow break the time-space continuum.

camera crew was inside yesterday as well, around 5:30 or so. i ignored it and just assumed it was some lame Crunch attempt to have fun FUN FUN!!! but....damn...would have been actually pretty cool if it was the Real World taping.

I asked tonight. Woman behind the desk said that the camera crew wouldn't say if it was Real World people, but they think that it was.

What kind of business allows a camera crew inside without first confirming what kind of production is doing the filming? Sheesh!

The thing is, The Real World has to get permission from all kinds of places in order to film (bars, restaurants, etc.) and many places is Brooklyn have turned them down. It's simply bad for business. A lot of people in Brooklyn DO NOT want to be seen anywhere near those kids. I will be really annoyed (although not surprised) if the folks at Crunch have given them permission to start filming. Also, don't they usually have some kind of gym in there 50 gazillion sq. feet places? I remember seeing some previews with meat head cheeseballs working out in their house. Please, please, please don't come to my gym.

Who knows if they'll be back at Crunch. I somewhat inferred from the woman at the desk that this was a one-time thing. But who knows. I suspect that if camera crews regularly show up inside the gym, many members will complain. I certainly will.

They are definitely going to be working out at that Crunch, got confirmation today from the head trainer. He said he didn't know anything about it until he saw the film crew at the gym.

How many gyms in Brooklyn, and they had to walk into mine? Groooaaan.

As long as they do it so that they don't cause any disruptions for the other members--fine. But I will not be the least bit comfortable working out with a camera crew nearby, and don't think that I should have to make myself comfortable with this, either.

OTOH, if MTV cares about its ratings, then getting my sweaty face on screen should be a big "NO". I probably have nothing to worry about :-).

thank goodness i've got the next three months at the Fitness Collective and won't be needing to step in Crunch as often...

...then again, judging from the past five or six seasons of the show, the chances of getting to make out with a cast member while on an elliptical machine are pretty damn good.

That's so bizarre to go to that gym living in Red Hook. They've got to pass like 20 on the way.

that's a very strange class, i must say. it seems like y'all do some dance-oriented cardio stuff at the beginning, but then all i see is a whole lot of women standing around while a few do some stuff on the poles. is it a workout for you?

it definitely brings a ton of people in whenever that class is going on. that has to be the most popular class they've ever had since the switchover to Crunch.

one of the instructors is incredibly hot, i must say.

Wow that sucks. If they only film from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m, fine. Otherwise, if any part of my body gets filmed, I am suing. Time to see if other gyms are offering back to school sales.

That's certainly what it seems like to me. Do you all actually do much with the poles, or it is just more Crunch-style fun, fun, fun?

i blush whenever i walk by the aerobics room window and pole dancing is happening. so, i try REALLY hard not to look, despite hot instructor. talk about distracting!! cognitive dissonance, for me, at THE GYM. the only place i'm feeling the pole is at cattyshack Wink. tho i dont begrudge others their enjoyment of this form of...exercise.

BUT, if a tv camera and its subjects are ever there when my sweaty endorphin-seeking ass is, i will promptly cancel the membership and be obnoxious and publicity-seeking about it. so not cool if they end up failing to protect their $88 a month members' workout space to accommodate celebrity.

what i see them doing is a lot of spinning around, etc., but there's only about five or six poles in there and about 30 women, at least (and, sometimes, one guy....).

i'll get off my fitness highhorse and say that i'm sure there's certainly benefits to something like this other than just burning calories, but that gym's certainly not the gym that used to religilously pack them in for the best kickboxing class i've ever seen for years before Crunch took over.

watching from the outside is rather blush-worthy and, like i said, that instructor.... Smile

They were filming at the Ft Greene Crunch last night when I was there. Not terribly intrusive or anything.

a friend of my fiance was on the real world and she said sometimes they go to different gyms/stores of the same chain as to not bother people but that way the footage all looks the same regardless of which one they are at.

a friend of mine was at a bar on the LES and they were there ... sucks that now that place isn't return-to-able since they go to the same bars over and over so that they can piece together stories that may have taken place over a week and make it look like it all happened one night.

You all would looooooove to be on the Real World.

Come on.... come on.... wait for it... wait for it..... there it is.

That guilty smile couldn't hide forever.

Real World is one of the most genius shows ever. Its evil. It embarrasses me that it is a pretty good representation of American youth. Its unfair. Its pointless. Its genius.

You don't have to write back saying you like the show, just nod at your monitor and It'll be our guilty little secret. : )

Jesus.

No. No, man. God, no!

I can't watch 10 seconds of that show without wanting to blind myself. Seriously. Come on.

Come on!

Just the thought makes me want to swallow my own tongue.

Having said that, they can workout, eat, party, vomit, hook-up, whatever wherever the hell they want. It's not like they're taking over my favorite drinking spot, or something (since I don't have one). I know I'm not the first to mention a wish for a rash of muggings to descend on them, but that's more schadenfreude than anything else.

That would be funny if Kevin Powell worked out at that gym.

Maybe he could bite one of the cast members!
