I stopped in today at 6pm. It was busy, but not as bad as Manhattan. Granted, this doesn't say much, but still. The store is gorgeous and fully stocked. The wife and I spent far too much money but had a good time. I say for opening weekend, just go with the expectation that it will be quite busy. In a twisted way, it's kinda fun. Oh, regular size grocery carts is nice as well.
I can't wait to stop by mid day weekday and have the store nearly to myself. _________________ Did Someone Say Walk?

It was a lot of fun yesterday. The line to check out was nuts, but it was the first day, and they were giving away a lot of freebies.
So great to have TJs nearby. And the prices are terrific.

Ooh I went to TJ's yesterday. It was really great! The store is much bigger than the one in Union Square. It's almost as big as the one I grew up with in Indiana. The lines were really manageable. It was about as bad as an average evening at Union Square.
I'm SOOOO excited about TJ's in Brooklyn :-p

We are going to go today. It will be nice not to have to drive out to Queens. Though the Queens store has parking.
Hope the lines aren't too bad, I only went to the Union Square store once and couldn't handle itl

Went today and was really happy with selection and pricing. It's pretty mobbed in there but the staff is super nice and helpful and the checkout line (altho long) really moves.

Is there a wine store, too? Or is it just the grocery store?

Just the grocery store. They only have 1 license for the city, and use it for their Union Square location. The other NYC locations do sell beer, though.
I went today, and was happy with the selection. They weren't too picked over...yet. The lines moved very fast, too. _________________ Windsor Terrace=>Park Slope=>Prospect Heights=>Park Slope.

In CA TJ's all have great wine and beer selections. I wish more of our stores could have wine.
But, yay for BK's own TJ's. I'll have to check it out soon _________________ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball!

I went yesterday afternoon around 3:30PM, and didn't find it to be too horrible of a crowd. Mind you, there were plenty of people there, and I had to work my way around clumps of folks, but there was SO much more floor space than the Union Square location that it didn't seem as bad. (And I hate crowds!) I still will be more likely to hit TJ's during a Friday during work hours (my typical day off), but the weekend crowd wasn't bad at all! _________________ Windsor Terrace=>Park Slope=>Prospect Heights=>Park Slope.

It was crowded but not overwhelmingly so, like at the Union Sq location. The lines weren't too long, I had maybe 8 people ahead of me in the regular (non-express) line and waited less than 5 minutes before getting checked out.
Love your avatar too! Do you give your kitties the Trader Joe's canned cat food? Mine love it!

My boy kitty used to like the crunchy treats, but I haven't been able to find them in the store for a while. I'm afraid they are Fancy Feast junkies. _________________ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball!

I don't mind the Manhattan crowds at the Trader Joe's near Union Square because the friendly staff does an excellent job of managing the traffic -- they herd us shoppers into fast flowing lines like cowboys chasing cows to the cash register. 100 customers at that Trader Joe's are able to pay for their groceries faster than 25 shoppers at Key Food on 7th Avenue.
That is so true. I think TJs treats their employees better than most grocery stores, and they are an refreshingly diverse lot. They have health insurance (I asked at the Manhattan store. No, I have not asked at Key Food. I don't shop there.)

I think it's more like union vs. non-union. TJ's treats their employees very well, with respect, and decency. KF is a union shop...with that comes the union mentality of entitlement. Sorry, but I've been on both sides and i much prefer the non-union attitude...respectful and decent.

Where's the closest subway stop (ideally on the R line), and would anyone know if 1) they deliver or 2) it's easy to get a cab going back home? I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I was just going to ask about parking. Any parking lots around or take a chance with street parking?
Who goes into a store and asks about Health Insurance? Do you ask that in every store you go to, clothing, shoes etc? Unless you're applying for a job I could see it, otherwise....
I prefer non-union shopping myself.

google has train stops on their maps
and now once you ask for directions between two places in NYC, google maps let you choose car, public transit, or foot!

Emroyka, take the R train to Court Street/Borough Hall. About a 5 minute walk down Court Street, longer if you walk slow and are laden down with groceries! _________________ Culture is what we make it Yes it is...Now is the time to invent

Parking garages nearby:
1) Right around the corner from Trader Joe's on Pacific Street (between Court + Clinton) there is a parking garage named the Parking Club.
2) Under the Court House condos (diagonally across intersection from Trader Joes). Entrance is up the block on Atlantic, past the YMCA (toward Boerum Place)
No idea about how much per hour.
Guessing it will cost you $22, in the typical NYC fashion.

I do. I am interested in the grocery business, and in labor issues, although this may be the first time I ever asked that question in a store. It was because they were so enthusiastic and there was such a diverse age/demographic mix working checkout.
I wondered why they were so happy and friendly over there on 14th St. in the middle of utter mayhem the first few months they were open.
