i’m just curious, does anyone know what is the old business in park slope still in operation? if i had to guess i’d say triangle sports on 5th ave by the corner of flatbush, but I really don’t know.
Agreed with Modsquad. Other than that I'm guessing Jackie's 5th Amendment, Aunt Suzies, Smiling or Pino's on 7th by 2nd Street. Myabe Tarzian's. Is Triangle considered old Park Slope? i know triangle sports has been there since at least the 1940's. but i know smiling pizzeria first opened in the 70's. i'm guessing pino's opened around the same time as smiling.

I would have to go with Triangle too if that can be considered old Park Slope. I think Pollio's in their old location has been around for over 30 years and A&S has been around since the 50s, no?.
Let's not forget Leopoldi Hardware on 5th Avenue.

Hi, I am thinking that Neergaard's Pharmacy on 5th Avenue, although Farrell's Bar on PPW has been there for ages, so has the candy store on
PPW between the circle and 16th. You see I grew up in Windsor Terrace and now live in the Slope and sometimes I wonder about how it has changed so!

Pintchik has been around since the 40's. The son's run the business now. They also own over a dozen buildings around the store.
My grandfather used to have these killer poker games with the original owner, the father?, that would last for days.
My grandmother once told me that she learned how to play poker in order to spend time with my grandfather.

I don't think Square Stores (5th ave and 8th street) is THE oldest business but it has been there a very long time. Howie, who owns and operates it came up in this family business started by his Dad and the Dad's brothr.

THE answer is Neergard. But it's interesting to talk about the other old places. O'Connors bar has an awning which says "Since 1931," although that would mean it opened during Prohibition. I remember a NY Times article saying that the O'Connor patriarch came over from Ireland to start up his bar in 1933. Triangle goes back to the '40s - but didn't it used to sell dry goods? The Mega Glass space has been a glass shop under different names since at least the 1930s. Steve Belsito & Sons (plumbing/heating) claims "Est. 1925," but I don't think they've been in the neighborhood all that time. Great Western Fine Foods goes back to the 1930s at least. Leopoldi Hardware goes back to 1966 but before then it was Fazio Bros. Hardware (check out the art deco "hardware" sign on the second floor). A&S claim to go back to 1942. Jackie's 5th is a relatively recent name, but the bar was Costello's in the 1940s and numerous other names in between. Tarzian is very old indeed - 1920s at the latest. Smith's Tavern has been in business under that name since the 1930s, probably right after Prohibition ended. Same goes for Farrell's. Garry jewelers opened in 1951 according to their sign. Lenny's Pizza (5th Ave. & Prospect Ave.) dates back to 1954. I believe the oldest continuously open restaurant in the Slope is El Viejo Yayo on 5th Ave. near Dean, although it used to be called Blanco's and it was owned by a Cuban family before a Dominican family bought it; it supposedly opened in 1963.
In terms of owned-and-operated by the same person, we should mention Tony at the Record & Tape Center on 5th Ave. & 9th St. He's been running that place since 1972 and it had a former incarnation up the street a few blocks in 1968-1972.

The Purity opened in 1929. It's original location was the building at 7th avenue and union street. In fact they were the first tenants in the building when it was built.
Purity is currently on it's 3rd owner since then.

1908 for San Toy sounds plausible. It very well could be the 2nd oldest business in the Slope.

Can anybody shed some light on the deal with Clover Barbershop - on 7th I think around 12th or 13th st? It looks like it's been there for at least 50 years and so does the lone barber I see every time I pass. He looks so sad and I've never seen a customer in there. Anyone know about this place?

it was on the corner of 12th st.
He told one of my friends ,who I think was his only customer, he had been offered $5million for the property and turned it down.
Shortly after the offer he became ill and had to retire, his family is handling his financial business and tending to his health.

When I first moved to the area I was going to Target for household stuff, tools, etc.
What a mistake. That place is understocked, overcrowded the employees are rude and most importantly the dollars get sucked out of the community.
Pintchik has everything you need, is local and serves with a smile.
