If they keep the same prices it's gonna rock. I mean, it'll rock anyway. But I imagine the rent is significant... _________________ When the experts are agreed, the opposite opinion cannot be regarded as certain.

I actually just ate at Hanco's 1 hour ago (Bergen St. Location) and was thinking: damnnnnnn, when is the place in my neighborhood opening.
Sandwiches range from $5-6. _________________ Did Someone Say Walk?

OK, I'm a rookie. Are the sandwiches hot or can you eat them a little while after pick up? What should I get? I like spicy food (not super spicy, but spicy)....can anyone suggest my first meal?

Medium original, and it is hot and much better to eat right away. _________________ Did Someone Say Walk?

yes "tea with eyes" is brilliant. I can not wait to grab a sandwich here. I have been going to Chinatown to get Bahn Mi for so long, it'll be nice to walk down the street for one. It's worth the couple extra dollars. Maybe if they do well enough they'll start making Pho and Bun too! Fingers crossed.

really good. got there at 12:50 was served at 1:15. me and a friend got 2 classic sammiches spicy style. very tasty, but they put all the spicy in like one spot of the sandwich.
their numbering system was a little whacked, it went like 18, 23, 19, 24.
when i left at about 1:35 there were at least a dozen people waiting. looks like i just avoided the rush.

We just got back from there. I had the chicken sandwich and it was fantastic, really tasty. I ordered the medium spicy - they assume you want spicy - and it was just spicy enough. I had a bit of a wait for the sandwich, but I expected that on their first day. The bubble tea was also delicious.
Overall, a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Sandwiches are $7, bubble tea was $4 / $4.75.
But I'm still a bit hungry, there should be more side dishes.

Wow - that was some damn tasty Bahn Mi! Husband and I split a classic and a shredded chicken, both spicy. Those peppers will set your mouth ablaze. They are by far the largest Bahn Mi I've ever had, so you are getting more for the higher price. We also got a rice vermicelli, a summer roll and a garden roll, all of which the kiddo took part in along with her bubble tea. The rolls are huge and the vermicelli plenty to split three ways. The flavor explosion in each can't be beat. Savory, sweet, tangy, spicy, evolving bite by bite. Perfect food.
I called in my order and it was waiting for me by the time I walked the three blocks - they do deliver, but I like a solo stroll after a day of family time.
My husband and I both cook, a lot, and rarely order in, but I can tell you right now that we will be gleefully ordering Bahn Mi once a week for the foreseeable future.
The phone number, which I couldn't find on line but got by calling the other location, is 718-499-8081.
fyi - while the other location takes cards, this one is currently cash only.

Just had a spicy classic and original iced bubble tea for lunch. Pretty pricey ($11.75), but the sandwich was absolutely delicious. The bubble tea was okay, but not worth the $4.75 for 16 oz. I'd never had bubble tea before -- I didn't find it all that special, but I'd be willing to try other teas/beverages on their menu.

Really? They are pretty tiny by my standard. I agree they are good but I think they are quite expensive and about half the size of more authentic chinatown Bahn Mi. I think the price, while on the expensive side, is worth not getting on the train though. Anyone try the salads yet, they looked good and of a reasonable size.

There is a place on Broome and Mott that has great Bahn Mi and they are big. Like half a full size baggette. There's also a couple great places in Sunset Park.
Still, glad to have Hanco's in the hood.

John Hodgman tweeted earlier that he was at Hanco's for lunch today. He said it was good, but not life changing.

Yeah, I think of traditional Bahn Mi as being more snack size. These are a meal. As for the salads - we had the vermicelli - it was delicious and was also meal size or splittable several ways as a side. The bubble tea was the only bummer - it was good but too expensive, at those prices we wont (often) get one again.

I was at Hancos again today for lunch but didn't see John Hodgman. I did, however, have a really really really delicious sandwich.

My boyfriend and I went the other night. We got the classic and the pork, and two garden rolls. All yummy - but I had a horrible allergic reaction to something. Hives, stopped-up nose, runny eyes. Which made me sad because the sandwiches were awesome!

Finally popped my Hanco's cherry and was impressed and not impressed.
First of all, as far as tastiness goes, big win. Extremely tasty Got a medium. will get a spicy next time. Meat is delicious and the crunchy cilantro was great.
Thought the sandwich was really small....have to get a side or appy if it's dinner, maybe at lunchtime it would be enough.
Service was kinda sketchy - just cause your number is lower doesn't mean you will get served faster. The girl shouting out orders for pick up was incomprehensible, but cute so OK whatever.
Overall review: I liked it but I need to get the right combo of food to be sated.

So let me get this straight: $7 bahn mi????
That's outrageous! It's $5 at the other Hanco's and at Vicky's. Shit I can get one in chinatown for $3. count me out on this one. _________________ (\__/)
