Has anyone checked out the newly renovated brothel-turned-condos on Lincoln and 7th? There was an open house going on yesterday during the fair and we took a stroll through. I have to say, I was pretty blown away. I think they did a great job with these. Top of the line kitchen and appliances, Bosch W/D in the apartments, interesting layouts and quite a few duplexes. Some of the duplexes were 3BR with a balcony overlooking the back. The only thing depressing were the prices. I think for the 3BR duplex with they were asking around $1.2mil. Out of my price league but maybe not a bad deal - considering you're literally steps to 7th, and less than 5 min walk to either the 2-3 or the Q. And also easily walkable to prime 5th ave.

1.2 mil for a 3 bedrooom duplex seems like a normal price to me. what brothel are you speaking of anyway? That place that used to be called the Lioncoln Place hotel or something?

i have seen them and think they are fantastic. the location is also top notch.
1.2 million for that much space seems reasonable to me for the neighborhood. i think they've already sold about half of them.
the building is just spectacular, in my opinion. i love it.

That building was a pay by the hour hotel.
The pimp used to hang outside.
Very 1970's stereotype. Hat, coat, whole deal.

Ha. I actually lived on that block for a few years. I remember when I first moved in, I saw that place and thought "oh nice, a hotel on the street in case any out of town guests come to visit". I went in once to enquire about the rates. The first sign something was amiss was that the "reception" was behind bullet proof glass. When she gave me a rate that was by the hour, I knew something was fishy.
Another thing that was really nice about them - some of the apartments incorporated the original stained glass windows into the design. So what's the lotto up to this week?

one very minor drawback to the location is the proximity to the music school, imho...it's very possible it would slowly drive me crazy

What Music School. The Brooklyn Conservatory? What is the draw back. I just don't understand that comment.

i didn't understand it either, veets.
apparently some people would be bothered enough to be driven crazy by a couple kids taking violin lessons from around 10-4 in a building around the corner from where they live.
don't ask me.

I read an article recently about a woman who moved next door to a music teacher. At first, she loved it, found it sweet, romantic, etc. After a while, she was going bat shit listening to scales over and over and over... Maybe that's what Squindar meant? _________________ Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!
