I haven't seen that anywhere. Where is this graffiti? And what's the website all about? Your post isn't exactly motivation to write to anybody about anything. _________________ Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball!

I've seen this stenciled on the sidewalk. Near 7th ave and prospect, I think.
And I was mildly annoyed, so was pleased to see this thread.
But the question remains -- what IS it?

whats21123.com is a silly countdown website that tries to make you wonder.
...but "the 21123" is a new condo that trys to tell you its in "Park Slope South", despite being on 23rd st.
perhaps this is an annoying, desperate ad stunt for said condo

Dumb guerrilla marketing strategy. Defacing a neighborhood isn't the most enlightened way to sell a new development in the area.

I have seen that graffiti and it never even occurred to me that it was referring to that building. Is that seriously what it is for?
That place has been sitting in the same state of half-built mess for almost a year. To add to the beauty of that POS, they left a lovely portable toilet in front the whole time too.

Had never noticed but today saw two stickers with this on it around 12th and 5th. Is it graffiti or stickers? Stickers as graffiti?

Et tu Gary?
Here's my note to our community groups after the total B.S. PR piece the Brooklyn Eagle (who beat you to the punch, I guess) ran last week, see below.
While you certainly did more research than the BE did, how about talking to some of the folks in the community, IE. CB7 not CB6, who have been dealing with this abandoned work site (trash, broken windows, a disgusting port-o-potty that was left to rot for 2 years) of an illegal building designed by bad-boy architect Robert Scarano, fired from the job when he lost his self cert and the DOB placed a SWO on the site 2+ years ago. An now, through the abuse of the ZR, these "good neighbors" have merged tax lots to make the illegal Scarano legal again. What nice neighbors at a starting price of $500k
Perhaps the PS Courier would like another side to this developer friendly article. Perhaps that's the new MO from your new owners a The News Corp...
I thought better of y'all. heck, this is a block and a half from me!
Your buddy, as always,

23rd St is the South Slope? Ahem! That's Greenwood Heights to you
Brooklyn Eagle.
Anyway, thought folks should know what's going on right down the block.
Follow the link.
Background info: 211 23rd St. was one of the properties put under
investigation by DOB when they went after bad-boy architect Robert
Scarano. Long story short, SWO on the site, the economy tanks, and the
development has been in limbo until this past summer when the owner of
the adjacent property (the red sided multi-family to the west) went into
a deal with the development company to "merge the tax lots." The theory,
a very strong one, is the Mr. Scarano overbuilt the building under R6B
and it's no longer legal. By merging with the property next door, 211
can use any available FAR left over, thus making their overbuilt 8-unit
condo "legal" in the eyes of the DOB and under the zoning resolution.
Let's see how their "Guerrilla Marketing Campaign" works in this tanked
economy...and with such a controversial project...and shoddy
construction materials that have been exposed to the elements for 2+ years.
Bask in its ugliness. _________________ A word or two from the highest point in Brooklyn--Greenwood Hts.

Depending on which side of 15th St you are on, call the Community Board. South of 15th St, call CB7 718-854-0003
And you can call 3-1-1 and they get ticketed for graffiti at I believe $150 per sticker _________________ A word or two from the highest point in Brooklyn--Greenwood Hts.

Not sure if this should be a new thread or not
But can anyone shed light on the meaning of the BNE sickers? Common in the slope and apparently everywhere else.
WHAT’S 21123? CLEAN TEAM TO HIT THE STREETS OF PARK SLOPE AND SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS
Postcards Describing MacBook Pro Give Away to be Distributed
BROOKLYN , N.Y., November 20, 2009 – Leewood Real Estate Group, developer of The 21123, a new boutique luxury condominium at 211 23rd Street in Park Slope South, and Pier 41 Advertising are dispatching their “What’s 21123? Clean Team” to the streets of Park Slope and surrounding neighborhoods this weekend to remove remnants of the highly successful guerilla marketing campaign promoting the new development.
The team, clad in “What’s 21123?” T-shirts, will be scraping off stickers, removing posters and using a power washer to remove any remaining chalk graffiti.
“Leewood and Pier 41 are conscious of their civic responsibilities,” said Leewood CEO R. Randy Lee. “Our street team will not only clean up after the ‘What’s 21123?’ campaign, something that was a crucial element in our marketing plan from its inception, but also will help clean up other stickers and posters as well, leaving the neighborhood cleaner than before the campaign started. We received many positive comments about the campaign, especially the rollerblader tricks, T-shirt giveaways and, of course, the mystery of it all.”
Clean Team members will again be handing out free 21123 T-shirts and Fred bottled water with 21123 branding. In addition, they will hand out postcards that describe how interested buyers who take a hard hat tour of 211 23rd Street will have a chance to win a brand new MacBook Pro.
After a month-long campaign where materials merely asked the question, “What’s 21123?”, Leewood Real Estate Group and Pier 41 Advertising disclosed earlier this month that “21123” is an address – 211 23rd Street, Brooklyn – where the borough’s newest boutique condominium has launched sales. During the last few weeks, whether they were walking on the street, in a bar, filling their gas tanks or even in a bar’s bathroom stall, residents in and around the Park Slope area of Brooklyn have been faced with the question, “What’s 21123?” It appeared on posters, stickers, graffiti, and on T-shirts being worn by rollerbladers cruising area streets.
The 21123 offers eight dramatic studio and one bedroom luxury lofts with sweeping views from balconies and its roof deck, and also offers backyard gardens, high ceilings, granite counter tops, stainless steel kitchen appliances, designer cabinets, hardwood floors and pre-wired broadband internet. What also makes this condominium a truly one-of-a-kind living experience are features like a “state-of-the-art” cyber doorman system. The 421a real estate tax abatement and Federal Housing Tax Credit leaves buyers enough cash to decorate their new homes with plenty of their own personal style and flair.
Located on 23rd Street between 4th and 5th Aves at the leading edge of Park Slope South, The 21123 is steps away from the hottest spots in Brooklyn and one block from the subway station that gives you a short ride to the excitement of Manhattan. Great neighborhood restaurants, shops and services are virtually steps outside the front door.
French Bistros, trattorias, sake bars, and swank boutiques to bookstores and coffee shops, all compete for the attention of area residents and visitors, along with a laid back bar scene that’s hopping with a hip crowd and just the right energy. A diverse and friendly community lets you take in stoops laden with used books, furniture, and vinyl records on the weekends and fills the Greenmarket in at Prospect Park.
Only eight exclusive luxury condos are available at The 21123 with prices beginning in the $500,000s. Grab one of the limited spots for a hard hat tour by calling (347) 552-1294.

completely transparent doucheness and desperation.
21123, I hope the units don't sell and the bank takes your house as payment for the money you owe them.
Your building is ugly.
Everyone knows that 23rd St is not even close to Park Slope.
The fact is you couldn't afford a real estate agent, so you vandalized a neighborhood, and lost a lot of potential customers as a result.
I hope you have to go rental. _________________ Hey you! Enlighten up.

or just reference the far-more brutal thread at Brownstoner and Curbed.
...that way anyone reading this knows its not just us who think buyers would be getting a lousy deal and wasting their money.
...not to mention being hated by their new neighbors, as a result of the builders doucheness
C'mon, doesn't everyone want to plunk down 700k to live where they will be disliked?

Perhaps we could limit the present suck-in to a poll at the top of the thread, and keep comments open?
I definitely appreciate seeing updates from lostingreenwoodhts and others on all this. And such threads on this site and others serve as a glaring, cautionary tale for anyone else considering same. _________________ i extend my battery life by averting extreme injustice and inherent evil

So does this mean that any business is now welcome to advertise for free on public space and the exterior walls of private property as long as they call it "guerilla" and promise to come back later and clean it up?

only if they sell units as a result of it.
...if the backlash is high enough, it means no place will do it again.

Oh, and if you see people giving out t-shirts this weekend, please accept as many shirts as you can. Then, give the shirts to the homeless on the streets, preferably any that hang out near this building. I can't think of a better counter marketing effort.

Perhaps we should all adopt guerilla advertising techniques for all future Brooklynian events, using spray paint to paint "Go, Brooklyn!", but only on the exterior walls of one particular condo building...
