I'm looking into maybe getting some Yoga classes for my wife as part of a xmas gift, and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a studio or gym that they've enjoyed?

I don't know much about Yoga, but she is fairly advanced and very in shape, so I'd want something that would be challenging to her, not a beginners class.

Any tips or info is appreciated.

Thanks.

I love Bikram Yoga! (Hot yoga the Bikram way). Two studios: 15th St and 5th Ave; Flatbush at Propect. It is an extreme yogi workout!

I actually work at Prema Yoga (www.premayoganyc.com) in Carroll Gardens in exchange for free classes and really like it. It has vinayasa, jivamukti, and Iyengar-style classes, some of which are very challenging and taken by people who have practiced for years.

I go to Park Slope Yoga mostly - they have some excellent classes. Bodhistatva is also good, if you like a smaller studio.
Other studio's in the area that I have heard great things about but have yet to try myself include Prema Yoga and Bend & Bloom.
I would not recommend the Bikram studio on Flatbush. I thought it was gross, smelly and a really unsafe enviornment (an ambulance was actually called the one and only time I went there for a guy who had a "yoga siezure" as if that should even be a valid term!). Unless your wife already loves Bikram, I'd opt for a studio with a more diverse set of classes.

hi there, I love "Move with Grace". There are some really challenging fun classes, the vibe is very friendly & welcoming, and it's close by on Myrtle at Washington.

I used to use Yogasana when it was on 5th Ave. They've moved to a larger location on 4th Ave, so may be out of your range. The teachers at Yogasana is excellent. They use Iyengaar -- emphasis on proper poses. They use ropes, blocks, blankets, belts to help you achieve proper alignment for your body. It's a great school.
