Special event at 1 Grand Army Plaza, April 17, 2018 6-8 PM

PROOF: Media for Social Justice Inside (un)DOCUMENTED Tuesday April 17, 2018 6-8PM 1 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn The Inside (un)DOCUMENTED project is a partnership between PROOF and the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC featuring photography and stories by our Picture Justice summer 2017 participants. Participating High School students from around the city documented the realities of the undocumented experience in New York City through photographs and interviews. Juan Carlos, Founder and Director and of the New Sanctuary Coalition is our featured speaker, emphasizing the importance of advocacy and speaking about the growing movement in support of immigration. Picture Justice students will share their stories about how the program helped shape their identity as youth advocates and change makers. PROOF will host the event on April 17 from 6-8PM at 1 Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. An RSVP is necessary for admission. PROOF organizes and documents global and domestic social injustices to reveal the power of everyday upstanders. PROOF’s network of human rights activists facilitates the testimonies of those who take action against injustice. By engaging a network of photo journalists, activists, and scholars and through the ethical collection of testimonies, PROOF’s exhibitions and workshops encourage righteous action. PICTURE JUSTICE helps high school students understand, document and address social justice issues in their own communities. During the program, students acquire tangible skills in photography, journalism and visual storytelling, producing original work including a photography exhibition and an advocacy newspaper. “Our work now is more important than ever. When we began PROOF twelve years ago, our fervent desire to focus the camera on victims of human rights abuses, rescuers in conflict zones, and the innocents caught in war sparked our creation” states the organization’s founder and executive director Leora Kahn. “Recently, we have turned our attention to the United States and the many social justice issues and movements currently shaping change, focusing on the need for advocacy and community education in support of those seeking justice for all.” The New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC is an interfaith network of congregations, organizations and individuals, standing publicly in solidarity with families and communities resisting detention and deportation in order to stay together. The event is OPEN to the public.
