For those of you living near the Bedford/Pacific corner where the homeless shelter is, I'm sure you noticed that the homeless people have grown this year and the loitering is spreading and has gotten worse.
I know for a fact that they get kicked out every morning very early and can only go back in the evening, so they really have nowhere to go. For the most part, they really keep to their own crew and don't bother anyone or make the neighborhood unsafe.

The issue is that they are now splattered and sleeping laying across the sidewalks and also in the front doorways to neighboring buildings. I've tried to email the mayor's office and have left countless messages with the Department of Health but have not heard back.

Something needs to be done to help these people, and also clean up the neighborhood. Has anyone else done anything? Was thinking of going to the news with this (for those living in the area you know what i'm talking about). They're not just hanging out on the corner anymore, some look dead laying in the street and sidewalks and the entrance to apartment buildings.

Through our innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula, accomplished authors visit high-needs pre-K-12 classrooms to guide students in creating their own writing projects.

We're looking for a volunteer photographer to document our team participating in the annual Generosity Brooklyn series 5K run/walk to raise funds to provide books to our classrooms and school libraries, and sponsor students in our programs.

- Sunday, April 29th
- Prospect Park, Brooklyn (south side; enter at Prospect Park SW at Machate Circle)

You'd capture runners signing in to receive their bibs and t-shirts; the race begins at 9:00 AM. Then you would document them crossing the finish line and receiving medals (start and finish are in the same general location). There's also a warm-up session led by a pro, and a winners ceremony. We'll also need shots of corporate groups, and some other designated images. A BtB rep will coordinate the details with you.

Witnessed a man hustling someone yesterday out of who knows what (probably money as the same has happened to me!). The hustler always carries a black bodega grocery bag and will swerve into the path of oncoming pedestrians, spilling whatever half-opened container of liquid is in the bag as dramatically as possible, then immediately starts arguing about fault and compensation. When it happened to me (earlier this year), he told me it was a premium of liquor that costs more than $50 and asked to be compensated, and even made mention of of a gun as I walked back toward my apartment. In that instance, I knew I was being hustled and told him outright that I didn't believe him, but he mentioned a gun so I just played along gave him $40 because I was on my way from work and just wanted to go home. Well, it looks like he struck again yesterday at about 8 PM on the corner of Empire and Nostrand near the bus stop. The man looks to be in his mid-40's, dark complexion, probably at least 6ft (taller than me and I'm almost 6 ft), and is likely living somewhere along Nostrand Ave. Is this hustle news to anyone? Several locals seemed to look on yesterday and one even uttered "Should someone tell him?", so it seems like some people were already aware.

Crownside (formerly Bar Corvo) on Washington appears to have shut down. I never understood why the owners closed down Bar Corvo, which was very good and very popular, and replaced it with a less interesting restaurant with a more limited (and constantly changing) menu. The last few times I went to Crownside they had settled on a taco-oriented menu, and the food was actually quite good, but by then they had lost their audience and the place was usually half empty. A real shame.

I am looking for a new parking garage near Franklin and Eastern Pkwy or a spot in a building with a garage that a resident wants to rent out. We currently keep our car at the Quik Park on Underhill bet St Marks and Prospect Place. The garage has never been that great but in recent months, after a new company took over the garage, it has just gotten beyond awful. They've repeatedly been parking the car outside and when it is parked inside it gets completely bombarded with pigeon poop. Several calls with the manager of the garage have done nothing.

I know garages have been closing left and right in the neighborhood, but any help in this situation would be great. Thanks.

This place is likely to become a restaurant as a result of previously being one, and having all of the venting and whatnot already in place:

The past:

The listing does not state how much rent the landlord would like, but we are talking about 1300 sq ft, which should make it quite sought after.

Based on the size of the lot, they are likely including the basement in that calculation.

The pizza place certainly was not that large... I wonder if it has a backyard.

Street view: http://goo.gl/maps/nu5wR

This corner store recently closed, and is in close proximity to not only the BBG and Tivoli Towers, but also the soon-to-be construction site that was Sea Crest Laundry.

Lots of foot traffic. No houses of worship nearby, so it could become a bar/restaurant if the landlord was ok with that.

There is a banner annoucing it is for rent, but I can't find a link at the moment. The adjacent storefronts might be part of the deal.
