We bring accomplished authors into high-needs pre-K-12 classrooms, where they guide students in creating their own writing and art projects based on the theme of the author's book. Our rich, innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula and meet Common Core Learning Standards, have a successful record of building literacy skills and motivating engaged readers at schools throughout the city, including three neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

You need no experience or training to volunteer as a writing, research or art coach to support students in the classroom. Working with small groups, you might guide them as they edit a short story or essay; research a topic such as an animal or historical event; or create artwork to illustrate their writing. You might also accompany a class on a field trip to a museum or urban garden.

Individual workshops run one to two hours on a school day, usually in the morning. You can volunteer for any number of dates in a program series, which are scheduled over a few weeks. With an impressive slate of authors leading creative, thought-provoking programs every year, you'll find many workshops you'll want to be a part of.

The Pathmark at Atlantic Center/Terminal (by Barclays) is closing for good. I only realized that the parent company (that also owns A&P, Superfresh, and Waldbaum's) declared bankruptcy over the summer. This particular location has been purchased by Stop & Shop, who will take over this location.

I overheard someone say that the Pathmark should close by October or sometime in October.

The store is not honoring coupons or its Pathmark rewards card program, despite what the parent company's website says. All sales are final.

This is where one transfers from the S to the C train....

quote:
"Brooklyn investor Joseph Brunner is planning to construct a 119-unit, 108,000-square-foot apartment building at 1134 Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, according to a permit application filed with the city’s Department of Buildings Tuesday.

The planned eight-story rental building will feature 89,352 square feet of residential space, as well as 18,489 square feet of commercial space including ground-floor retail. The development will also include a gym and a 75-car parking garage.
Karl Fischer is serving as the architect of record, according to the filing.

The third and fourth floors of the building will each house 21 apartments, while the fifth through seventh floors will hold 23 units each. Six apartments will be located on the eighth floor.

No demolition permits have been filed for the existing two-story retail building on the site.

Brunner could not be reached for comment. The investor acquired the property through Porter Ave Holdings LLC for $19 million last year, according to city property records."
