Where do you put your parents when they visit?

I am desperately trying to find a B&B for my mom in early November. She only needs it for one night-- she'll be at the Marriott for the rest of the time.

The woman at the B&B on Prospect Park West was SO snotty to me and requires a 2 night stay. B&B Marisa (on Park Place) is weird because you actually have to walk through a private home to get to your bedroom. I also left a message for Garden Green (in CaProPa) but I'm concerned that they also have a 2-night minimum.

Am I overlooking any awesome, not too expensive B&B's in the area?

What's CaProPa? Something to do with Carol Gardens and Prospect Park?

Carlton between Prospect and Park.... sort of a joke between my fiance and me about our uber-trendy 1-block long neighborhood!! Dumb, I know....

There's an article with three local B and B s in the PS Food Coop paper this week...don't have it, but I'm sure they won't chop your head off if you poke your head in and ask for a Gazette. We put guests at Garden Green, it was fine.

Thanks for the tip about the Linewaiters gazette-- I'm actually a member so I'll go get a copy this week.

I called Garden Green and the guy was also quite unpleasant to me. It says they have a 2 night minimum (seems to be the standard) but it also said it was "flexible". so he said he couldn't do one night, which is fine, but then when I asked about 2 nights, he said no to that as well, and that I would have to wait until closer to the date to make that reservation, in case he was able to get a longer-term reservation.

Then he launched into this long speech about how he was in business to service himself, not to service other people. Um, hello, I thought the point of being in the hospitality business was to give service to others??

The thing is, it's not like I'm asking about a prime weekend night-- I'm looking for a monday night in early november.

I can sort of understand their situation, but the way both of these B&B-keepers spoke with me was a TOTAL turnoff. Also-- I love how in NYC, a B&B does mean breakfast. Sorry... this whole thing has put me in a bad mood.

Try the world famous "Akawaba Mansion" in BedStuy...great reviews, fabulous brunch, amazing service...mom will love it...

they don't do all the Bs at the place on Carlton tho - they send guests to carneviento for breakfast

the best b & b in brooklyn is in your own neighborhood, it's called Brownstone Brooklyn B&B at 290 Park Place between Vanderbuilt and Underhill. The proprieter is a Yankee from Maine, Dave Whitbeck, a real nice guy. Best deal in town and beautiful. I've stayed there.

My folks have stayed at David's on Park as well - highly recommended. Also try Peggy Elwert's at 622 Carlton btwn Park & Prospect. Not sure what her minimum stay is, but it's worth a call: 622 2897

Still the 2 night problem but they're definitely not snotty. Fair price and remarkable decor.

I put my Dad and his wife up at the House on 3rd Street and they said it was very nice and low-key (they are nervous in the City, poor things). When we visited, they were in a very nice parlor floor living room/bedroom with their own bathroom.
