Group home at 836 Prospect Place

The state agency responsible for housing mentally retarded individuals is attempting to buy the large one family house at 836 Prospect Place. It is for sale through Fillmore. The alleged contract amount is $1.4 million.

Many who live here, especially the newer residents, are unaware that North Crown Heights is saturated with supportive housing projects of this type. Over 2,000 beds, the secondest highest concentration of any community board in the city, according to community board 8.

By the state's own guidelines, they are to avoid over-saturation of any community, yet because North Crown Heights residents have not organized to resist them, the state continues to place more projects here.
