Can someone recommend a good cafe in Fortgreen area?
I don't know much about the area but would like to expand my hangout place.

Thanks!

I'm new to the neighborhood, so my suggestion is definitely going to be the painfully obvious one, but...Tillie's, on the corner of DeKalb and Vandy, is a great all-purpose coffee shop. Very busy on the weekends, though, with lines at the counter and full tables.

If you were looking for quiet, room to stretch out, and were willing to go even further afield to the far edge of CH, I'd suggest Outpost, on Fulton past Grand. It's a nice place--even has a garden--and I'm worried that they won't get enough traffic to stick around.

I hope others have places to suggest, because I'm curious too. Ah--and this thread will prove that we aren't the same person! :D

Yeah, Tillie's is the first that comes to mind. It's a nice little place. Good vibe. Even better sitting outside, but those days are nearing their end..

I can't even think of another coffee shop in the area.. there's a diner-y cafe right next to Pratt on Hall near DeKalb, but I can't remember the name of it at the moment and I've never been there.

Outpost is the same as Havana Outpost or different one?

I will definitely try Tillie's. Do they have good sweets?

No, Havana Outpost is different from The Outpost. The Outpost is a cafe on Fulton in Clinton Hill between Grand Avenue and Classon. IMO, it has much better coffee than Tillie's, though it is further from where you are looking in FG I think. Try it sometime though, I'm a big fan and I want them to get more and more customers so they stick around.

    Do they have strong coffee?
My favorite is Gorilla on 5th. I need coffee as strong as theirs.

They have good croissants and brioche--I think they come from Cafe Marquette, actually. They also have these impressive looking slabs of cake/coffee cake in various flavors--definitely on my list to try.

    Nice-looking sandwiches, too, mostly veggie.

There's also a cafe/bar on Grand below Lafayette (called, I think, Grand) that I've been wanting to try, but again, that's CH.

Anyone tried the coffee shop across DeKalb from Tillie's? Does it have merits aside from being the "overflow" spot?

If you're willing to venture over to Atlantic Avenue between Nevins and Third, the Flying Saucer Cafe serves up Gorilla Coffee and is a nice place to be in.

A shorter trip than the Gorilla on 5th Avenue and not too far away from Fort Greene.

    Subject: Don't forget Pillow Cafe

Also in Fort Greene there is Pillow Cafe on Myrtle between Clermont and Adelphi... just a couple blocks up from Fort Green Park.

But I agree that Gorilla has the best coffee in Brooklyn and the Tillie's vibe is coool.

There's also Java Dave's on Lafayette & Cumberland. Pretty good coffee and the guy is really nice. I'm not a fan of their styro-plastic cups though.

Sure this thread was started almost 5 years ago but I couldn't find any other one that mentioned Tillie's and I didn't want to start a new thread.

Anyway, does anyone else feel that Tillie's doesn't provide good value for your coffee dollar?

I honestly need to stop going there but sometimes old habits are hard to break.

I try to like Tillies. But they just don't make good coffee. Kind of important... for a coffee shop.
    Choice is better.
Tiny Cup probably the best in the vicinity.
