Trivial but weird

I pulled out a gray hair (I don't normally pluck those, but it was on the side of my head and it was annoying me) and the root was black! I do dye my hair, so if it were the other way around, that would be normal.

So I'm trying to figure out how could that happen. Obviously, I'm way overdue to have my hair done, but how can gray hair have black roots? Is it the magic age-reversing properties of my new macrobiotic diet? Is it the cleaner air of Crown Heights as compared to the filthy air of Astoria?

Mind boggles. Must eat lunch.
