Rats-a-plenty

To those upset that ProHo is becoming too "fancy" or gentrified: Yesterday afternoon, riding my bike up Vanderbilt from my shop for a quick pick-up of {yummy} lunch at Amorina, I passed 2 guys laughing and watering the sidewalk. They were laughing at two water-soaked, live rats desperate to get back to the building. The water jet was keeping them at the curb, sort of a "firehose in prison" scenario. I screamed as they stopped the water to let me pass, and a rat ran toward my wheels, and they laughed even harder.

This is still the old 'hood, no worries, ok, guest? *sigh* :(

People harassing the poor rats is definately unbecoming. I agree with you.

Wow, I have never seen a rat in the neighborhood, except by the park.

On Friday morning around 5am I was taking my trash out on Park Place and when I opened the trash bin outside our building a rat sprang up as if it were one of those old children's toys with the crank that plays "round and round the mulberry bush" only since this is brooklyn it was a rat instead of a weasel. i screamed and leaped backwards which gave the rat plenty of room to slink toward Vanderbilt.

Always knock before opening a trash bin.

Vanderbilt obviously has a big rat problem. The most scary thing is how bold they are.

Aren't the new trashcans on the corners of Vanderbilt the rat-proof kind? Well, I hope so...

probably, but the scores and scores of garbage cans sitting in front of the buildings arent, unfortunately.
