Do a search on the Brownstoner.com Forum section. They always have posts on home repairs and services.

We use Vigilante -- not cheap, but they seem to know what they're doing.

Agreed. They did most of our plumbing when we renovated back in 2004. Most recently a VERY expensive water heater replacement, but they are very clean and hard working. A large crew, unlike some of the mom & pop outfits. John Hlad comes recommended as well, though we never liked the work he did when we rented...but we weren't paying the repair bills the
