Monthly Parking

edited November -1 in Park Slope
So I have finally recovered after having my car stolen in June and I am looking to acquire a new car. My question is how/where can I get a monthly secured parking spot (not a garage) in PS or surrounding areas? Real estate broker? I don't do Craigslist so please don't suggest that. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

What is wrong with a garage? I mean, this sort of thing is _exactly_ their purpose, is it not? Not trying to start anything, just curious...

What is wrong with a garage? The price is absurd.

The monthly cost of a Park Slope garage space is indeed high (although lower than in Manhattan).

However, having had a car stolen while parked on a busy street in the middle of the day, my opinion is that the expense is outweighed by the security of knowing the car will still be there when I need it.

When you add to that the convenience of not having to worry about alternate-side parking regulations, the expense is easily justified (assuming one can afford it, of course).

All that being said, if you can save money by finding an off-street non-garage parking space, more power to you!

So, other than a garage, just where exactly would there be a monthly, secured parking space ? I mean, this is Park Slope, it's not like people have driveways or private garages they are going to rent you.

Not meaning to be snarky, but where other than a garage in this area do you think you will be able to rent a spot? or, are you willing to park your car in further out areas (which to me seems highly in convenient)?

I agree with you booklaw, I am trying to find some help here in acquiring an off-street non-garage parking space. Any suggestions and/or helpful advice in this cause would be greatly appreciated.

As I stated in the original post LongTimeSloper PS or surrounding areas and I would be willing to consider just about anywhere in Brooklyn. I was hoping there may be a secured private parking space available if not in Park Slope (I know not very unlikely) maybe in a not too distant neighborhood within a few train stops at the most. I just don't want to waste $400 a month on a damned garage. The car itself, insurance and gas is already enough and after getting my previous car stolen less than a block from my home I would prefer some kind of real security but if I have to pay for a garage and there are no other options then so be it. Just trying to investigate the possibilities.

Holy crap! I can direct you to places in Manhattan for WAY under $400/month. Park Slope is stoopid. There is a garage by my place in Crown Heights that is way less than that too, I don't know the name or rate, but I can walk past and check. There are a couple places around GAP that I'm pretty sure are less than that too, and I know of a couple lots up towards Brooklyn Bridge that are probably a bit more reasonable than that. What are you looking to spend a month?

I would love to spend $200 or less but anything under the PS garage $400 would be great. Basically it will be best to find something that if out of walking distance from North Slope where I live that where I park would be accessible by train or bus. Thanks for the help Daver!

Ok, understood. Do you need all day, 24 hour parking?

Because, the methodist garage offers part time parking for $175 per month. but, it is limited. for that price, your car has to be out of the garage by 8 am and you cannot put it back in the garage until 5:45 pm weekdays. Weekends and holidays, it can stay in all day for free. Now, obviously, this only works well for someone who uses their car for work, or, who doesn't mind having it on the street during the daylight hours.

Also, and, I don't know the prices of this, but there is an outdoor, gated parking lot on 9th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue-they are probably pretty cheap. Though, not sure of the safety of it.

fyi, I pay $267.41 per month to park at the garage on Garfield Street just below Seventh Avenue. It's not $200, but it's a heck of a lot better than $400.

Ultra Parking at 288 St. Marks (near Underhill) in Prospect Heights was $225/mo, last time I checked (abt 6 months ago). Not sure if that includes tax.

St Marks Parking at 307 St. Marks was $254/mo + one month security deposit.

I've seen a sign by the garage near the Atlantic Yards advertising parking for very cheap - I forget exactly how much...something like $140-160/mo. I've always suspected its a come-on/teaser offer for the first month, but it's probably worth checking out. Believe the garage (and the sign) is on Pacific Street, a few blocks east of Flatbush. If you check it out, let us know what you find.

It's not in the Slope- but if you are wanting something affordable near North Slope transportation...there's a garage on St. Johns between Classon and Franklin that's either called Park Right or Right Park. I think their rate is $215/month. It's close to the Franklin stop for the 2/3/4/5 trains or you can use the B71.
