Same Old Story Sequel

Hi,
Couple weeks ago, I posted a quick account of how I got mugged on Eastern Parkway (I was the big guy who was slightly incredulous that a big guy would be a target). Just wanted to let people know that the police actually caught the mope (excuse my Wire speak). They came to me with a photo sheet last week and I was able to pick him out immediately. Today I picked him out of a lineup. Friday I go to the grand jury.

On the night of the crime, I couldn't quite tell if the cops were putting on a show, the gung-ho show. Why would they care that much about a $100 crime? But these guys came through. It seems pretty easy to label the cops as lethargic or apathetic, but these two detectives do a real service to the department.

So count it as one less bad guy on the street. I hope.

That's good news. Hopefully these cowards will think twice and realize they cant and wont get away with this behavior.

when my stuff got stolen from a friend's apt --- the detectives actually called me back a few weeks later with some goods that matched mine. the stuff wasn't mine --- but it was still nice that they tried and something seemed to be going on!

good news on two counts: one menace gone, and we know we have a couple of good detectives in the precinct to thank for it.

my problem with the cops around here isn't so much what they do (aside from over-protecting certain places, like tom's and terrace bagels) but that given the amount of crime here there aren't enough of them on the street.

Exactly. Try checking out the thread on the Crown Heights Board re: Operation Impact. Mixed reviews, although I'm not sure why. I think the next Precinct Council Meeting is this coming Monday. I'll try to remember to post it. It would be great if more people with personal experience of street crime could show up and voice their concerns.
That said, I'm happy to hear that the OP's assailants are going down and that police follow-up was so thorough. But yes, more might be better, and not just in the thin slice of the precinct that's been given the uniforms.

Wonderful news! It's great to hear that another scumbag will hopefully be punished for his crime.

But, wait, he was probably reacting to societal oppression and had no choice but act as he did.

    Kidding.

BTW, I love the influx of cops that Operation Impact has brought to the area.

The after-the-fact aspect of this is pretty incredible and encouraging.

A friend of mine was mugged a few weeks ago (in one of those other boroughs) and because someone called 911 while it was in progress, my friend rode around with the police and found a couple of the guys just minutes later. Arrest, grand jury, etc. YEAH!

Thanks for the good news. Thanks for calling the cops in the first place so they could find the criminals.
