Are there any yoga studios in south slope? I did a search and didn't see anything but places down near union...

If you're talking about Jaya yoga--I would NOT recommend it. The teacher's perspective was so negative, and patronizing, I actually felt like leaving. I've been practicing yoga for over a decade, and never have I seen such a strange yoga studio; even the set up was awkward. I am curious about some others in the south slope; but Sasha at PSYC is really great. Vicki (who also teaches at Kula in nyc) is amazing, and even her "basic" classes are appropriate for all levels. She is an example of a great teacher; one who can show you the pose's full intention; and adjust to your level.
I will never step foot in Jaya yoga again.

There's a lovely new bikram studio at 5th Ave & 15th St, if you're into the hot yoga... http://www.bikramyogasouthslope.com

There is also a place right on 9th St at 7th Avenue. i forget the name and haven't been there- it's next to the burger place. Bikram is very good, I tried the trial but found that it really depends on the teacher which is surprising since it's the same darned routine every class. The YMCA has yoga classes too.

I've had no problems at Jaya over many years.

The yoga teachers at Harbor Fitness are generally pretty good.

I've been going to Jaya Yoga for a little over a year and I've only experienced one teacher who I would not go back to. I have really enjoyed all the other instructors and the space. I highly recommend going there. It is also not so expensive and the classes are all an hour and thirty-five minutes.

As mentioned above, Harbor Fitness, 191 15th St, has yoga classes - they charge a flat $20.00 per day use. They have a 3 day free trial membership also.

New question- does anywhere in PS do drop-in classes for a reasonable fee? Theres a bunch of places in the burg and greenpoint that offer dropins for $5-10....anything like that here?

not in the South Slope (that I know of). Maybe you should think about a YMCA membership since the classes are included with the membership?

eh, I'm really sporadic about these stuff, sometimes I just get the urge and want to go RIGHT NOW but I don't think I'd ever spend more than $30 a month on dropins at 5 or 10 a piece. Hmm...do you know of anywhere in PS at all that does this?

No. Sorry! The least I've seen is $15.00! I tend to be sporadic too. Bikram does offer a discount if you buy a bunch of classes and I don't think that they expire if you don't use them within a specific period of time.

I don't see what's odd about the setup -- there's an entry room (where you pay and leave your coat) and a yoga room.

I've been taking a series of intro classes there and I've been really happy with it.

Having a bad experience with one teacher and forsaking the place forever seems a tad dramatic. But I hope you've found a place you like.

I like the vibe at Jaya and it's way convenient to where I live.

First classes are $10, single classes after that are $15. Seems to be the going rate.

Bend & Bloom is running a special for first-time students: $45 for an unlimited month of yoga. http://www.bendandbloom.com/ Not exactly South Slope, but worth the few extra minutes of walking time.
