Places to park a car

Hi. My boyfriend and I are moving to the Ft Greene/Clinton Hill neighborhood at Gates and Vanderbilt and we have a car. Do we have any hope of finding street parking? Are there any affordable parking lots in the area? (Unfortunately the only time I parked my car overnight in the neighborhood, a couple of years ago, my window was smashed in. )

Thanks so much!

I used to park in bedstuy on bedford and lafayette (ok is far but its a "worse" neighborhood) and never had any problems except that street cleaning is twice a week and its a serious pain in the ass. I now park in Park Slope near my bfs house where st cleaning is only once a week and its way nicer. PLUS if you time it around a holiday or two you can go weeks without having to move it.

That said, on street parking is a pain everywhere. If you can afford to garage it, I'd do so.

I park at the garage down on DeKalb across from the Hospital (next to the pizza joint) $215 a month (incl tax). It's a bit of a hike down but can be a nice walk on weekends if you're going to the Farmer's market anyway, and easy to pick up if you can hit the DeKalb MTA station on your way home.

i park in the same garage. it is convenient but the rates have gone up $50 in 2 years and that's before all these condos are completed. i expect it to cost $300/month in the next year. there's a lot on vanderbilt near myrtle you may want to consider. street parking is feasible if you have the time to look for a spot. it's already been proposed and i think the alternate regulations will change to once a week for this area in the next year as well.

The Vanderbilt lot is really sketchy. We moved here in July and put our name on the "waiting list" which is a collection of post it notes. I went back to inquire about our placement a few months later and was told that if I gave the boss some $$, we would move up on the list. We park at the garage north of myrtle on waverly. The only problem is the steep incline and the bottom of our car always gets scraped. There seems to be enough street parking in the area, but I've seen a lot of cars broken into in the morning.

CH newbie said,"There seems to be enough street parking in the area". Whenever I rent a car I drive around for an hour before finding a spot and not always close. The hours for street cleaning varry alot from block to block. Good luck ! I got rid of my car years ago.

Street parking is pretty tough and will only get more difficult once demolition/construction begins over at the Atlantic Yards.
