i haven't, although i think owls are spotted in the park from time to time.

what i have heard lots of around here is the who-hooo of mourning doves. i'd so much like to hear or see an owl, that i've even been faked out by them once in a while.

do you think that might be what you're hearing?

Maybe that is what I'm hearing, I'm not sure how to tell the difference though. It's quite often so I guess the changes of it being doves is more likely?

here's a video with some mourning dove calls:

there are tons of mourning doves around here, so it is more likely that's what you're hearing. still lovely, i think.

(oooo, but i want to see an owl! i've only seen one in the wild once, in montana. a great horned owl sleeping on a fencepost. it was so pissed when we got out of the car to look at it.)

The one and only time I've ever seen an owl is when one came kareening into the windshield of a car I was in. It was so big - it cracked the windshield of the SUV. Very creepy actually - I think the Owl must have been sick or on some sort of suicide mission.

I reckon you likely heard some doves or possibly pigeons, but yeah it could've been an owl(s). It depends on where you are—are you close to the park? There's nesting pairs in the park, but unlike the red-tail hawks that you'll frequently spot gliding/chillin' around PH, owls tend to stick to wooded areas. And are mostly nocturnal—that's why they're rarely spotted. And with the rich abundance of food in Prospect Park, they're likely to stick around in there—it's their nature.

I've only seen two owls (have heard many more) and I spotted both in the evening, in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Magnificent creatures.

Haven't seen any owls but there's a woodpecker in the trees in the yards between prospect/carlton/st. marks/flatbush. Lots of other pretty cool looking birds too. It's like the nature channel out there sometimes.

keep a look out for mockingbirds. Before the cold came I saw 1 in a tree on Prospect Place and another 1 closer to Classon. There seem to be a lot of them around and are fun to spot. Usually when it gets going will keep going and going and not moving from tree to tree, but stay in 1 spot. Of course some find this annoying. :)
