New wine shop on 8th avenue and 17th?

On the corner where the pharmacy was is a new place that looks like it will be a wine shop. The place has shelves and wine stocked. No signs yet, maybe it is just an import office. I hope it isn't a place that sells cheap industrial wine. Anyone know what this place is?

    I bet this is it:

It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that we announce the opening of Brother John Lenartz’s new store in Windsor Terrace, Windsor Wines & Spirits. Pride because he will be continuing the family tradition in an area which, much like Slope Cellars when it first opened, was being underserved. The sadness of course comes from losing one of the hardest working members of the Slope Cellars’ team. John has been with us from the beginning and has played a key role in developing the Slope Cellars model. This month marks our eighth year in business and we would never have made it this long without his dedication. We are sure his new store will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood, and we know he looks forward to serving those needs. We wish him the best of luck. The Grand Opening is scheduled for Thursday, March 6th.

I'm excited to have a place close to me. I love Slope Cellars, so I think John will do a good job.

Ooo I wonder if this has something to do with all the new people working at slope cellars (well, I've noticed 2 or 3 new guys.) I'll have to go up to the new place and see who I recognize, although slope cellars is nearly across the street so I'll stick to that as my daily wineshop.

i walked by this afternoon with the pooches to check it out, and the windows are all papered over. only thing i could see were the ceiling fans.

wow, i hope it succeeds. such a difficult spot for any sort of foot traffic. if it's any good, i'm willing to support it, but it means i'll have to split my loyalties between this place and slope cellars. ah well. but in my opinion, if we want businesses like this to continue cropping up in So Slope/WT/GWH we need to give it a cushion, eh?

Speaking of new booze stores, looks like Field's liquor store on 16th and PPW has closed up shop. a new wine store will be moving in there in the next month or so.

I love Slope Cellars, but will check this place out and hope it's good. The store across from Farrell's is simply terrible and only used for emergencies

I totally agree on your assessment of Fields, across from Farrells.

Otherwise, I went out of my way to Slope Cellars to actually buy real wine/liquor.

The only time I shopped there was when we ran out of wine during our viewing of Sideways at the Pavilion. Unfortunately, i missed one of the funniest scenes of the movie (when Miles empties the dump bucket over his head) when I ran to Fields to buy little airplane bottles. That place was not much of a bargain.

Hopefully, Field's replacement will be an improvement.

    Subject: Fields Wine

There's a sign in the window of the former Fields on 16th st that says it will soon re-open as Windsor Wine and Spirits. Must be an improvement.

Wow - that means TWO new wine stores, potentially. Yay!

has anyone taken a look at windsor wine and spirits? it's deja vu all over again. Looks like they didn't change a thing from the old Fields days.

I'm still going out of my way to "slope cellars" and "big nose full body."

I love Slope Cellars, and am so happy their "offspring" are spreading their own take on the wine biz...my only hope is their NY wine selection will be as good (and hopefully bigger) than Slope's. If so, I'll even walk the extra blocks to go there.
