Recycling VHS tapes?

Does anyone know? Can i throw them in with the plastic recylcing?

Do they just go down the garbage shoot?

Is the terrible chromium-related issue that the Google seems to show for reals?

Any info is helpful. Thanks.

P.S. These are just a bunch of Simpson's episodes that I've now got on DVD. Maybe I'll leave them in the lobby if all else fails.

Our building got a ticket for having VHS tapes mixed with the recycling, so I'd recommend you just throw them in the regular trash. Unfortunately, NYC is pretty limited in the kind of plastic it accepts for recycling....pretty much just PET (like soda bottles) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) like gallon plastic milk/water jugs.

Not a bad Idea - every few months I put a bunch of old VHS movies and tv shows in my hallway with a "free" sign.... they never last more than a couple of hours before someone snaps them up!

Recently I had a similar dilemma. I put up a post on brooklyn freecyle and they were gone within 12 hours.
