Tempo Chango to Mexican

OTBKB is reporting that a Mexican restaurant is replacing Tempo in the space on 3rd Street and 7th Avenue.

PS has a lot of just ok Mexican restaurant, but if it is good I think it could do very well.

Well, if they can't bring back Herzog's, I guess a Mexican place works too

A Burritoville would be nice.

Park slope officially has way too much mexican. Hell, Lobo, La Taqueria, Chilies and Chocolate, Santa Fe grill, Mezcal's and Rancho Allegre are all within blocks of Tempo alone.

I probably don't even have my tex-mex & mex categories quite straight, but broadly speaking, I figure there's serious mexican like Chilis and Chocolate or Maria's on a good day, and then there's the burrito type stuff.

For the latter, am surviving well on Uncle Mo's and Clemens, but if something from the Harry's and Benny's franchise were to open up in the Slope, I sure would not mind.

Much more urgent, however, would be a real good Chinese for the South Slope. Grieving Red Hot intensely...

Agreed, but none of these are anything really special. Some are bad and most are just OK. If a truly great place was opening... that would be a good thing. Burritoville would be a waste.

Chilies and Chocolate is Oaxacan, not Mexican. Yes, I know Oaxaca is in the middle of Mexico. But the food at C&C is not what you'd get in a typical Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant.

Santa Fe Grill is Mexican? Who knew?

miracle grill is right across the street, and it's vaguely mexican. i predict more doom for the storefront of doom.

That would be welcome in the not-really-mexican Mexican derby! I loved that place...although its location had a lot to do with that love...

i agree with whoever said the key to this space is about the feeling of the interior and the attention paid to the outdoor area.

if they create a beautiful, lush garden area outside, a place with mediocre food could do ok.

such a nice location and i've always thought there can never be enough options to eat outside. this place has it and just needs to take advantage of that nice corner location.

i know it sounds silly, but i think a buttload of plants would go so far.

That was me, beljzm, in that other thread. And I agree with others above; the Mexican Sandwich Company was about as mexican as a kosher dill... yet, I loved their food.

While we're wishin' and hopin', why can't we bring Sweet Mama's back? Fried chicken and collards on a leafy patio, say after taking in the cherry blossoms at BBG... well, a gal can dream.

The tortas (a.k.a. "a Mexican sandwich") at Chavella's in Crown Heights are awesome btw. I always get tacos in Sunset Park...

I remember it being on 5th ave.. possibly in the store that Rachel's has now.

I don't believe it was in Rachel's spot. I remember it being cady-corner
to the bar across the street with the huge outdoor seating. The waiter at the mexican sandwich place told me people often drank at the bar across the street and ordered take out from the mexican sandwich place and had it delivered to them at the beer place.

I think it was a door or two down from Stone Park Cafe on 5th Avenue near 3rd Street. I believe it is a real estate office now.
