explosions? fireworks??

We're on Lincoln and 5th and I hear lots of exploding sounds coming from Southwest of us. Are there fireworks, for some reason?? It's been steadily going on for like 5 minutes. Can't see anything from our 4th story apartment. No clue what it is!

    Sunday around 6 pm, there were major fireworks. I saw toward the direction of manhattan downtown from my apartment, it was beautiful! I wonder what was that for...
