To the long list of objects vulnerable to attack by computer hackers, add the human heart.

The threat seems largely theoretical. But a team of computer security researchers plans to report Wednesday that it had been able to gain wireless access to a combination heart defibrillator and pacemaker.

They were able to reprogram it to shut down and to deliver jolts of electricity that would potentially be fatal — if the device had been in a person. In this case, the researcher were hacking into a device in a laboratory.

I'm amazed that they only found three dead dogs out of 800. Usually you read these things and it is more like 220 dogs, with 80 dead or something.

Not to say that these people weren't obviously headed in that direction.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Broward County, eh? Perhaps those folks are just sick and tired of the whole voting thing by now.

800 Chihuahuas, so that is like, two regular sized dogs. Or a hundred NYC rats. Saw a huge one last week in Battery Park, incidentally. It was a monster.

These folks were elderly "breeders" I guess, they really got out of control. Triple wide. I'm still amazed that they only found 3 dead out of the eight hundred. They got really lucky and caught these guys earlier in the spiral than they usually do.

Yeah the 800 number (heh) was what stood out to me. I mean, these hoarding stories are fairly common, but 800 dogs - even if they are tiny, that's still insane.

One of my friends claims he saw a sick mutant rat the size of a small cat in Central Park once. I trust the guy, but I gotta think he saw a possum or something.

i'm wholly willing to believe in giant nyc rats, alligators in the sewers, unholy ratagator hybrids, holy ratagator hybrids singing on the subways, etc.

i've certainly also seen muskrats in new york, though. they're big and ratty, and they thrive in areas with construction.

Follow up:

A man whose girlfriend sat on a toilet for so long that the seat adhered to her body will spend six months on probation.

Kory McFarren pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor count of mistreatment of a dependent adult. A judge sentenced him Tuesday to six months in jail but granted the probation after the victim, Pam Babcock, asked for leniency.

"She didn't believe that her circumstances were his fault," Ness County Attorney Craig Crosswhite said.
