gorgeous feral cats

was walking home from work, in the 20s, when i came across an empty lot with the most exquisite group of ferals i've ever seen.

four that looked like purebred main coons, one that looked like a black version of a main coon, and a little tortie. i looked at their ears and none had that piece the vets remove when they've been TNR'd.

they're also not as feral as some, because they came up very close to the fence i was standing in front of.

there was one that appeared to be the matriarch (patriarch?) with something of a bad left foot.

are there rescuers in this nabe? these are adult cats that would absolutely find new homes, based on their looks alone. (i know this isn't politically correct...) i'm off to go watch my cat on the wbcam of the hospital where she's spending the week, being nuked. )

I know these cats and yes, they are beautiful, and quite friendly. This group has been living in this lot for over three years. The neighborhood takes care of them, from what I have seen. Especially the people who work at the bakery who regularly buy large lots of cat food and feed them.

I have wondered the same thing about "rescuing" but haven't pursued it because of the seeming large social network the cats seem to have from local residents.

I live on that block and see these cats every day. These kitties are about a year and a half old, I'd say, and were preceded by other cats in that lot. They are VERY well fed by somebody who dumps tons of cat food at the fence every afternoon. They are lovely. I know one was injured once and my downstairs neighbor took it in to the vet. So there are people looking after them. That's not to say they wouldn't be better off if someone took them into their house for good, but they seem to be living a fine life on their own. They could probably all stand to be spayed or neutered, though.

who are the local TNR people? they should be spayed.

as for the one that's injured, it seems to be the "head of household" and it has a bad foot.

i wanted to bump this back up.

the cat with the bad back leg now has an open wound on its front paw. the cat is limping, mangy, and i'd say very close to dying.

those of you who live in the nabe, can you let word out to the person (persons) who took the one sick one to the vet? i've also contacted slope street cats.

AND several of the smaller cats are quite preggers.
