I am in a never-ending search for Red Velvet cake to replace 2nd Street's amazing cake (if anyone knows where 2nd Street got their cake from, please post!). I was just told that there's a "BBQ or Tex Mex" restaurant on 5th Ave that has great Red Velvet Cake. Does anyone know what restaurant this might be?

Well, if they were talking about Biscuit BBQ-they closed up.

I don't think it's Biscuit BBQ- the person I spoke to said it was going "up #s" from 1st Avenue (towards South Slope?)

I know it's kind of a hike from South Slope, but Cakeman Raven on Fulton and S.Oxford makes KILLER red velvet cake. Just so unbelievably good.

Thanks for the tip! Do you know if their cake has cream-cheese icing? It's the traditional (and best!) icing, but I'm amazed how many places cover perfectly good red velvet cake with regular icing!

Wing Wagon on Flatbush has incredible red velvet. Yes, with the cream cheese icing (the only way to have it...)

They do cream cheese and chocolate frostings...the cream cheese tends to sell out pretty early/quickly, though.

I know it's not right in Park Slope but Junior's Red Velvet Cake is really good. I've only had it once but I think it was the cream cheese frosting.

    Subject: 2nd street cafe cake

2nd Street Cafe got their cakes (at least the the chocolate cake) from Cheryl Kleinman cakes. They now operate Betty Bakery on Atlantic Avenue.

    Good cake. :-)

Sometimes Naidre's has Red Velvet but really when you are so close to CakeMan Raven in Fort Green there is no other place to go. Once you've had his Red Velvet no other can compare. I am serious. You have to go if you haven't been.

Be warned they open at around six during the week (at least they used to)...get there early because they sell out quick and the lines can be insane. He's the Difara's of sweets.

Cake Man Raven's red velvet is the best cake of any kind I've ever had in my life. And yes, he uses cream cheese frosting.
