Subject: Semi-New Cool Restaurant on Carlton and St. Mark's

This restaurant seems really cool, simply because of the location. It's the only restaurants in that area-- most restaurants are on Flatbush and Vanderbuilt, but this is like a secret, hidden, romantic diner in between the two main streets.

I'm not going to give away it's secrets here...you'll have to just meander on by and check it out.

Secrets, huh? I tell you a secret...that restaurant opened up because people decide they can raise the rent and push a bodega out that had been there for years serving the neighborhood. If I see one more quasi-trendarific restaurant (that blows) open by way of pushing out the small guy who can't keep up with inflated, unaffordable rents, I swear I'll barf all over the sidewalk every day...well, not really.

whoa... with higher rent comes a nice neighborhood. supposedly.

Agreed. But saying that on this board, invites howls of criticism from the very people who help drive up the rents. But that's "organic development" not gentrification. Ah, denial...

The restaurant is called Sorrell and has been discussed pretty extensively on this board already....you're a little late on reporting this "secret" place.

Damn the people at that huge multinational corporation, Sorrel, for hating on the little guy. It's their fault and nobody's but theirs that rents in the neighborhood are going up, and so because of that, we should boycott their restaurant. Obviously this is just another example of the predatory behavior of the nefarious Sorrel conglomerate. They must be stopped.

How does nice neighborhood come with higher rent? Drug dealers have lots of money and can still pay that high rent.

True, but higher rents bring people who would likely rat them out the first chance they could to get them out of their building. Then they would watch the sting operation and smile.
