New Restaurants in the Slope

I am looking for suggestions for a new restaurant (or really the best one) on 5th Ave for my birthday dinner. I am going to invite friends in ("from the city") and wanted to have a nice, chill place to try out. Have you heard anything open up recently that people seem to enjoy? Or should I go for one of the "guaranteed always a great meal" places instead? I will bow to the wisdom of the message boarders.

What is your budget and what type of food?

If it's fancy and your budget isn't very low, I'd say try Tempo. I don't know why I was reluctant to try it for many years (and I've lived here 10+ years, when the only "nice" restaurant on 5th Ave. was Tempo's predecessor - Cucina), but I took my mom there on Christmas Eve (her birthday) and had a truly delicious meal with very good service as well.

Sounds interesting and I always meant to try out. I would prefer nothing too pricey because I know onw of my friends is on a budget right now.

then what's your budget? figure it out for appy + entree + 1 drink pp. there are so many places to choose from, you'll have to give just a little bit more information.

they do have a very reasonable prix fixe (~$35, but you have to watch out as some items have a supplemental charge and it can add up quickly).

As Shishkab said....a bit more guidance is needed....there are just too many places to choose from

I guess, it would be about $40 per person. That seems about right.

$40 PP including tax and tip or before?

I guess before tax & tip, let's say $50 max per person for everything.

I think Tempo's price fixe is $25 Sunday through Thursday (but even if you go for the higher price it's worth the splurge). I also think the only thing on the menu that's a little higher is the steak for 2...which is so worth it :D !
The problem with Restaurant week is that sometimes there's limited reservations for the restaurant week menu (Stone Park pulls that) and places are packed!

Its taking place next Saturday, the 29th. I am going to do some research on this. I did NOT know it was Brooklyn Restaurant Week!

oh, wow, well then if it's next week i highly recommend you take advantage of dine-in brooklyn!

my personal choices for dine-in week (and ABSOLUTELY make a reservation if they will take one, as these places are super-popular during that time) would be, not in any particular order:

    applewood
    melt
    blue ribbon sushi

and then, since the food will only be $23, y'all can splurge on some good wine at applewood, tasty cocktails at melt, or quality sake at blue ribbon.

good luck, happy birthday, and make your choice soon so you can get that reservation!

Dine in Brooklyn is a great thing-if you can get in to the restaurants. like someone else said, a lot of restaurants do limited special price reservations and you can never get in. good luck!
