Laptop Stolen on Dean st.

Hi folks,

just a heads up. Yesterday on Dean between vandy and carlton some kids pried open my screen on my window (the window tilts in an was open), and they snagged a laptop off my desk. It was a big 18" silver HP.

I know it was kids because I was on the couch in the other room watching TV and silently cursing the damn skateboard kids who were using my building's ramp as a launch pad. (at least one of the kids was white with a white baseball cap i shoulda grabbed a photo)

Tomorrow i'll be asking around to see if any of the nearby video cameras got them on tape.

Just wanted the group to know it happened.

that sucks. Did you file a police report?

I called the non emergency number for the 78th precinct and they said to dial 911 or I could come down and file a report. I'll be doing that tomorrow. I didn't feel like abusing the 911 service for an incident 24 hours old.

why wait? They could be trying to sell it on the street right now

True...but the odds of a cop seeing a report today and finding a kid with a laptop tonight are slim. I'm not even reporting it in hopes of catching the kids. I'm reporting it so that if this happens to others more data is available. I also am hopeful the cameras next door caught something and then the cops can have more info.

Do you have curtains? Could the robbers see your laptop outside?

i have blinds but they were open to let in the nice day. I called the cops this evening. It turns out i'm in the 77th pct. They came and took info.
