Gang activity

In passing people have mentioned gangs in the hood on this board. Can someone please elaborate on which gangs, where they congregate, are they responsible for the recent spate of muggings, are they on the upswing, and so on?

Honestly Brownie- I seriously doubt anyone from this board would know the answers to your questions. I mean, if people on the street are wearing "colors" (blue and red), we can't honestly say we know they are crips and bloods. Call your local precinct and ask them as the questions you ask are kinda statisical.

the BLOODS are defintly in the prospect heights area, all you have to do, if you get an oppurtunity is ask one of the kids in the neighborhood. I would say, they either know somone thats in a gang, or know where they hang out neighborhood. Also some of the grafitti tags on the walls, clearly state what gang, and their street or division association...Even better you can ask the local owners at restaurants, i suggest Pizza shops that have been in the neighborhood for awhile, i'm sure they'll tell ya. From my personal experience i know along time resident who has been there for years, and usually hangs out on Prospect and Classon, and he has relatives that live in the neighborhood, and he's the one that told me about the gang situation and what to look out for, late at night. he also explained NYC BLOODS, do not "fly" their colors to avoid police interragations...

True; I honestly wouldn't know the difference between a Crip or a Blood even if they were biting me in the butt.

It could be that "gang" is being used as a shorthand for "large group of rowdy kids that are habitually causing trouble" as opposed to being a denotation of an officially organized status.
