I think that menu is either for a different place or is really old.

I have a menu and have gotten an additional one every time I've ordered from them , which I've always thrown out. I'm sure they'll have more menus soon. I'll save my menu next time I order if you haven't gotten one by then.

that link is to el rey, not el gran castillo de jagua...

el rey cdj used to be where the duane reade is now.

I always thought el gran cdj was a better bite.

i stopped by today to grab a menu, and they only had a laminated copy to look at there, and a business card of which i took one. I figure worse case i can order a few cubans and hopefully get a menu with my order. Whats the minimum order amount???

the other day i was walking by el gran castillo and I heard someone say, "smell that?" then mumble something inaudible, then say "carneviento." perhaps it was one of you folk, but perhaps the word is spreading.

haha there should be some sort of message board code...

"Excuse me, sir or madam, have you heard the new Whitefish Stank and the Steel Reserve album?"

Or probably I should just show up at a happy hour so I can know who you all are.

Yeah, hello! Plus we've got better codes than that which can only be learned at happy hour. 8)

'cus i can't resist sharing this. has anyone ever publicly enjoyed the happy confluence of wind conditions that allow a delectable vortex of carneviento to waft right through the turnstyles of the 7th ave subway station? sometimes, it can even get down to platform-level! i know i have stopped after many a long day as i'm climbing those stairs back into brooklyn and taken a deep breath to appreciate the "welcome home to prospect heights!!"

I experienced el carneviento over Thanksgiving, albeit in my parents' house in central Florida. While it did not remind me of PH's atmospheric wonder, it did give me that warm fuzzy feeling that envelopes me when it's sweet aroma tickles my nostrils. That's the same sensation I experience when PH's el carneviento wafts toward me.

Damn it. I miss my mother's cooking. Guess I'll have to make some pork shoulder soon. Who's in?

yeah. I actually have enough trouble with my cuban dad. a cuban guy has proved nothing but trouble in the past. but, you know, if you can make a decent pan con bistec, I might be willing to reconsider.

well, you need to get some decent palomilla first, and i don't think you're getting that anywhere in NYC...

there used to be a place in Union City when I was kid named Los Dos Amigos which made the best pan con bistec (also the greasiest) I'd ever had. they used hand cut fries instead of potato sticks and sliced their palomilla ridiculously thin. place had to have closed down around '88 or so, when I moved to Miami. ah, the days.
