A trip to the Botanical Gardens

    A trip to the Cloisters

A special care package at Dashing Diva - open 10-8 this Sunday

Best advice - avoid all restaurants like the plague [-o<

    How about flowers? ;)
Kidding, sort of (thats what I sent my mom)

Or you can do like my sister and get your mother the Tremors box set (yes, that's the movie Tremors...)

My mom lives far away and she gets a card for now. However, my folks are visiting us in a few weeks (first time in my 3 years here--hard to get her to leave town for various reasons in recent years) so I'll get to take them to all kinds of stuff then.

We were just talking at work about what to give long-distance moms besides flowers.

My mom happens to LOVE getting flowers--cut or pots to plant in her gardens. My grandmother on the other hand has started complaining about any and all gifts so she gets pictures and phone calls.

Since my family equates holidays with food - I like to send the "Fruit" bouquets.
As someone who recently lost their mom (and a mom myself) just make sure you call them and tell them how much you love them.

my mom lives in vancouver but if we were together i'd cook her brunch (found a great recipe for ricotta pancakes w/ blueberries here http://noblepig.com/2008/05/07/no-more-excuses.aspx ) and then do a spa day w/ her because she is often overworked and stressed by work and family.

or i'd take her winetasting because that's one of her favorite things to do and she rarely takes time out for herself.

alas, this year little brother is cooking for her and i'm helping him plan the recipes.
