Car breakins on 24th b/t 5th 6th

Walking to the R train this morning saw at least half a dozen cars with drivers-side windows smashed in on 24th Street between 5th & 6th Aves. The cars were all ransacked, with glove boxes open and contents on passenger seat.

This block has no residents. Greenwood Cemetary is on the south side and the ConEd station is to the north. Perfect for late-night break-ins.

Making a note to self: iff'n I eventually get a car, leave the glove box empty and open.

Speaking of the ConEd station, does anyone know what happened to all the trees that were on the sidewalks surrounding the block? They're all stumps now and I was wondering if anyone knew when they were removed and maybe why. I speculate that it was 9/11 overreaction. What a shame.

That's new. Normally its the window glass guys on 4th during a slow month, according to the 72 Pct.

Bad block to park overnight, period.

Trees died, and all of the sudden last summer...not sure why and I assume will be replaced by Mayor Mike's 1Mil tree planting.

yeah, i noticed the same. i definitely won't be parking on that block anytime soon. and speaking of parking, has anyone noticed that it is becoming much more difficult to park in the neighborhood? partially it's because construction vehicles take up at least 5 available spots on my block, and there's construction on the surrounding blocks as well. i drove around for half an hour on Wed. night looking for a spot safe for Thursday's alternate-side. shades of Cobble Hill.
